The two floaters that come along with it say otherwise. Del Zotto is a good prospect but 2 floaters, a 2nd rounder and a good D prospect won't get it done. And why does NYR keep trying to go after every big contract player only to have them do nothing for them. Give it a break and build from within. These big contracts are KILLING them.

I'd move Heatley for a top pair defenseman under 30 and he has to have a threatening shot in his skillset.

A shot that opponents will respect enough, to pull opponents to him, opening space down low for forwards.

You guys are dreaming if you think you'd land either of the original proposals. NYI - set with their plan, not to mention JT + KO will combine for more goals than 1 Heatley. 2 players vs 1, so be it, they could sign Cammi for 5 and have that line put up 90+ goals. What 3rd/4th liners are you going to find to form a line with Heater making that same money (10mil)?

Brown wont be traded, but i would do something like this:

Alexander Frolov
Thomas Hickey
2nd in 09

would toss in a goalie prospect if needed as we have 5-6 solid prospects and obviously wont need all of them

Frolov gives you 80% of the point production and hickey will be a top 4 dman within a few years. 2nd rounder should get you a nice prospect.

No from Isles perspective. We need a lot of help still. No reason to trade 2 HUGE assets for 1 player. Heatley is good but many think Tavares is in his mold. And Okposo is going to be a good one.

I'm not a Heatley fan -at all- but you have to respect his talent and the points he has put up in the past. Any deal involving Heatley would take either...

a) Package involving a 1rst round pick, a very good prospect and a decent roster player.

or

b) a goalie or defenseman of equal (ish) value (Luongo, Bouwmeester, ect)

Then my offer makes sense but instead of the first its a second and instead of a decent roster player they would get a very good roster player. plus a goalie prospect who could be great one day.. ya never know!

It's definitely not a bad offer, but i really do think that Ottawa could get a better deal. Although I'm not a fan of Hickey at all, so that might play into it.

If Heatley was traded, it wouldn't be for anything like these proposals. Obviously, Heatley for Tavares and Okposo is fantastic value, but I sincerly hope Ottawa would not make that trade.

I want Ottawa to aggressively compete for the cup in Alfredsson's last 3 years, and that just realisticly isn't accomplished by moving your top scoring forward for young talent.

The only kind of trade that I think makes sense for Ottawa in these pre-Alfie-retirement years would be for a player like Kovalchuk, Iginla, etc., and I don't think I need to elaborate why they're not going to happen.

Brown is the only interesting thing LA can offer Ottawa in a deal for Heatley if Doughty isn't involved.
