What do we make of the Buffalo Sabres? A good team, no doubt, but one that looks to be on the outside looking in. The lineup is sprinkled with solid players, including the likes of Chris Drury, Miro Satan, Dimitri Kalinin, and Jay McKee. And, while younger players such as Max Afinogenov and Taylor Pyatt have struggled often, they seem to like coming to play against our Habs. Let's hope a seas of red, white, and blue can drown these Sabres' playoff wishes.
Ladies and gentleman, let it be known that Alex Kovalev is coming to play. While his first goal as a Hab was all but pretty, this man can skate, this man can stickhandle, and now, let's hope the floodgates will open and we will see this man score. One thing's for sure, he loves playing here and we the fans are quickly starting to become accustomed to a certain #27 dazzling us with a wide
number of moves. Go Kovalev.
Richard Zednik is in playoff form, folks. Okay, so maybe he fell a little asleep during the home and home against the Devils -- but he managed a beautiful assist in game one. His numbers have been off the charts of late, but, more importantly, so has his work ethic. He is hustling and hitting not only the scoresheet, but opponents, too. It's unlikely he'll hit the 31 goals he had last season, but he is just one point shy of last year's total, and two behind a career high. He currently sits one point off a career best when it comes to assists, too. May as well knock that one off, too.
All in all, while this is not a must win, it would sure be a nice one to bag. The Sabres are down and out, and it would sure be nice to hit them hard while they are flying low. Perhaps the biggest fear for Hab fans will come from the likes of Dany Briere, JP Dumont, and of course, a French Canadien goaltender in Marty Biron. There's no reason why we can't win this game, but it all starts with not playing down to the level of our opponents. Are we playing over our heads? Perhaps, but I've forgotten the taste of losing and I'm really liking it. Who will step up big tomorrow? Kovalev? Koivu? Ribeiro? Ryder? Zednik? Bulis? Souray? Markov? Don't you just love the depth.
Koivu scores 57 points making him the art ross favorite down the stretch.
Note: After a marketing miscommunication, "Disney on ice" Joins the ice thinking it's christmas time. Mickey will try to check Komisarek but find himself flying 10 feets high and falling down Cindirella. Mickey sees himself ejected from the game for obvious roughing. After 18 mn of play and 72-0, the habs' coach Claude Julien notices a slice difference in the sabres play and finaly sees that they are not on the ice. With 2 periods to go, He then tells his players to relax a bit and they all have a good time watching Disney on ice; after all it was CJ's childhood's dream.
