Dreger: Leafs might consider trading away pick #7 for a young roster player
Darren Dreger said on AM640 that:
- NY Islanders will most likely draft Hedman
- Tampa wants Hedman too
- If Hedman is selected 1st overall by the Islanders, Tampa would consider trading the 2nd overall pick to Toronto for Schenn, Kaberle, and #7. However, Leafs would prefer to trade another player, Kaberle, and #7
- If the Leafs can't acquire #2 from Tampa, they might consider trading away pick #7 for a young roster player

If Hedman goes first, fireworks will soon follow. Perhaps even several major deals, and I could see one being a Leafs major trade, perhaps with TB.

I don't mind that. All depends on the young roster player of course.

Young, roster player.
Not a bad idea. How about the prospect of re-acquiring Jeff Carter ? Only this time we'll be sending the 1st rounder.

This is all so much to handle. Where's Friday? Unless you get a player like Carter or Getzlaf for this player, which you won't, you shouldn't trade this pick.

Interesting.
Would people do #7 for Peter Mueller or Devon Setoguchi?

I wouldnt mind the first three, but I'd hope to get a better player in this draft at #7 then Gagner(overrated), Voracek or Cogliano.

Anaheim has been looking for defensemen, maybe they want a shot at OEL or Cowen?

yeah because trading our 7th pick for a player 2 or 3 years ahead in their development and far more of a sure thing would mean we're destined to suck forever.

Yea, getting a very good young roster player that already has some experience is bad thing.

In all likelihood it will be a team up against the cap who would want to shed this player's salary for an inexpensive draft pick.
