Ok, here's how the Crosby-fied Lightning will work if they make me coach.

We sign Sidney Crosby to a $100 million dollar/1 year contract. Then I trade everyone else for cheap fighters. Crosby will love Tampa, so he'll sign long term for super cheap/free.

The fighters surround Crosby at all times to protect him from the others team's fighters. Tackling or stiff arming anyone who tries to get near. There job on offense is just to pass the ball to Crosby.

I'll yell "shoot" when it's a good time to because I can see things he can't on the ice.

I don't understand how anyone on here can knock Sidney Crosby. HE IS THE RAINING HOCKEY MVP!!!!!!1!!

If you don't like that, then don't vote for him anymore when you go to espn.com!!!!

Getting a winger is the last of my worries... If we get Hedman, I'd like to see them bring in a solid veteran defenseman that can set some sort of example for all the youngsters.

I think forwards can be left alone. But hey, thats just me.

To not get this thread too off topic...I still hold out some hope that Vrbata can comeback and be productive. If Vinny is still here and 100%, I feel Radim could put up numbers on either a line with Vinny or Stamkos.

for anyone who is wondering if Vrbata ever found his game in Europe...

(18 games) 12 goals - 5 assists - 17 points

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=43740

This also split between 2 teams (I guess he was traded?) But not too bad anyway. I just hopes he is able to bring some confidence or something back with him and do it in the NHL.

The problem with Vrbata is that the Lightning need to make a decision early. They can't go into camp and see how things play out. Practically everyone will be gone by then. Either he goes to practice with Tampa Bay once his loan is over and proves he belongs, or management gets their missing forward and Vrbata can then either try to squeeze in somewhere or is traded/back to Europe.

As for why Vrbata played for two teams, Europe doesn't have a trade system like in North America. It's usually money for player transfers with any other European team, (and the player involved has to agree to be transferred there).

However, Vrbata was loaned from his initial Euro team. Don't know any specifics of why though. His lack of games played is troubling.

They are in a real though spot then. I think they should meet and if he's in shape and has been training he should get a chance to come back and compete in camp. If he has been lazy then I don't think he'll be welcomed back and they will try to find a way to keep him in Europe.

Does anyone know if Lawton talked about Vrbata at the Q&A?

We have a grand prize winner... I'm really thinking Vinny will be gone soon, and we'll get a couple defenseman and a top six winger in return...

Draft John Tavares. (I think Hedman's going 1st and not to the Lightning)

further, i don't think there will be a Lecavalier trade.

This is a scenario I've thought a little about. In that case we'll have:

Lecavalier
Stamkos
Tavares
Halpern
Szczechura/Craig/Hall

What would the team do in this case? Who gets moved to wing, or another team?

I know I don't want Halpern on the fourth line. He's good at his job, and makes 2 million a year for it. This isn't the 99' Rangers.

If Hedman isn't available, either Vinny or JT will be moved. Thats a tough one... scorer who is a mediocre skater with decent size vs. big physical forward, but only when he wants to be...

One who will be paid $10,000,000 vs. one who will be paid $875,000. Guess which one the ownership would choose.

It's very possible.

If the team is indeed having financing issues, Vinny could be gone. It could also be an excuse to not have the STH's absolutely kill them, but whatever.

Some of us on here are dead set on it's going to happen. I don't have that view. There are lots of options right now, and depending on how things pan out, trading Vinny is definitely one of them.

ok i hear you. what i do not belive in is however, that the team is in financial trouble. are they loosing money with the franchise? yeah sure.but with all the assets, st. pete times forum (concerts etc ) and the financial background of koules i do not think there are any financial troubles at all.I read that koules said in the town hall meeting with fans, that there is no such thing as a self impossed cap, nah i think we are fine.thats what gives me hope that we will not trade vinny

He did so well last season with Vinny and Stamkos.

I don't think they are going to pay him his $3 million to see if he can still be productive. Trade his rights or buy him out.

If it comes down to it, I fear it will be a buy out. Nobody will want him and his contract

Between periodical fears that the Lightning might actually move Lecavalier before July 1st, I have a healthy dose of paranoia about them getting no significant D signings early in the FA period and instead putting more dollars than are worth spending on some out-of-left field type winger splash signing. Some major head scratcher like Kovalev, Afinogenov, or Jagr or something that we just don't see coming and gives everybody else on the boards more 'clueless in tampa' ammo for all next year.

I mean, they do have to address the defense at some point, right? Right?

Ugh, I dread this offseason. Hedman, no Lecavalier trade, 1 solid top 4 defenseman, and depth to push people for jobs is all I really want to happen. But, I can't help thinking its going to be Tavares, no Lecavalier trade, 1 or 2 scrub defensemen (a Malik by any other name), and some whacked out winger to waste more cap space on.

Beauchemin a Bolt come early July, regardless of the draft, would be sweet. But not holding my breath.
