Ya, this would be a great signing if he was healthy. But...

Gionta 5 years, 25 mil to the Habs....

It's time to hang yourself if you are a Habs fan. He sucked for the Devils last year, B A D.

For the money it is....

Pretty sure he hasn't been resigned and there were only rumors that a deal was close. TSN still lists him as a free agent.

Thank God the Habs signed Hal Gill because their average size would be the equivalent to a Peewee league.

Camillari 5'9 185
Gionta 5'8 175lbs...and that before he took a sh itt
Gomez 5'11 200lbs soaking wet

All quality players but not worth that much. Camillari was a good signing I though. Did they not learn anything from that beating we gave them.

MONTREAL (CP) -- The NHL's storied franchised in this city, in a shocking move, today petitioned league headquarters in NYC to produce yet another alternative sweater using its iconic CH at its center.

''The inspiration came to me,'' said GM Bob Gainey, ''after we traded for Scott Gomez and then signed Brian Gionta as unrestricted free agent. It was so obvious, I felt we had to do it.''

The diminutive Gomez and Gionta, along with their fellow Lilliputians in bleu, blanc et rouge, in 2009-'10 will sport sweaters that read: CHmurfs

''It will probably go over the heads of some people,'' winked Gainey. ''IN fact, it might go over the heads of half our team.''

Sweaters will be made available on nhl.com and at various Small Men's stores across North America.

BTW, care to change your position on the Thrill after seeing what fellow RFA'er David Booth signed for?

I know folks are getting a good chuckle at Montreal today, but they're adding a lot of skill and talent, albeit at bad contracts.

No kidding I feel the same way.....Cap doesn't matter when it's 20 on 20....

They are a better team IMO today then when we last saw them.

Sure, but fortunately, they're still nowhere near as good as us.

After what happened this past season changes had to be made. This is their way of blowing it up.

It's true, but does that look like a playoff team? It is ala Mike O'Connell. "Well, we can't get the truly top free agents... so who else can we grab?" They would have been better, IMO, to have obtained 2 guys like Havlat/Gaborik/Hossa/etc. instead of the 4 they did get.

I'm thinking that alot of today's athletes may not have it in them to play in Montreal like the old days. Players of the modern day aren't as hung up on history and original six anymore...If they can get comparable money elsewhere, why deal with that stress? Also, they seemed to be in huge turmoil last year.

They really seemed to overpay to get guys there today. Gionta and Spacek were ridiculous numbers...Cammy a 6 mil a year guy? Gill is decent as a #6, but close to 2.5 mil per? No way.

You can have it for 5 mil...trust me. I see him 10 times a year live, and you are going to be sorely disappointed.

I didn't think the Habs' forward ranks could get any smaller.

Chicago is really stacking up for a serious cup run this year it seems. Madden at one year is a good signing for 'em.

Unfortunately for them, Kane will have a bad season since he's the NHL '10 cover boy.

Whammah -- Agreed, some ridiculous deals today.....but that wouldn't encourage me as a GM to write one of my own.

Again....3 years/$10M....under extreme duress, I might give him same dough at the Living Krech.

And from what I can ascertain, they've lost their shot with Kaberle. Contrary to reports, the two sides did not talk today.
