With the assumption that Scott Niedermayer re-signs in Anaheim, I think the ducks will be looking to re-tool slightly for the future and have to cut salary.

I'm guessing Niedermayer will ask for 5.5 - 6 million.
Whitney makes 4 million.
James Wisnewski will probably get a big raise (2.5 mil +).

Since it was hinted he may move at the deadline, I think Pronger is the odd man out, and with 1 year left on his deal and strong post season, there will a few teams interested.

What do you think your team would offer for him?

I think the ducks will be looking for an nhl ready top 4 dman and top 6 forward.

No Lupul. Seen him already.

Pronger, Hiller for Jeff Carter if we're dealing with Philly.

Montreal: Plekanec, Gorges, Fischer

For

Pronger

Pleks a second line centre to play with Selanne. Gorges a solid 5th or 6th man, which Habs are deep in. Fischer a D prospect a few years away.

Trading a future hall of fame dman who still clearly has miles left is not a slight re-tool.

HF would-be GMs were strongly suggesting that the Ducks move him at the deadline, "rebuild," and mail in the rest of the season. Brilliant suggestion, as we found out.

Just my opinion, but it would be equally brilliant to move him now. That is to say, it wouldn't be.

When you're one goal away from advancing to the Conference Finals, you keep your core and add to it, to move forward next season, not chip away at it prematurely, even if CP is entering his walk year.

Well, Carter certainly isn't for sale for two UFA. We're not trading away a big piece of our core, at age 24, coming off a 45 goal season, for what could possibly be one year of Pronger and one year of Hiller.

To ANA: Pominville (5.3), Tallinder (2.56), Marek Zagrapan (7.0 C)

To BUF: Pronger (6.25), Brown (RFA)

a young middle of the lineup NHL player that wont cost big dollars, a top half of the lineup entry level contract prospect or young player and a first round pick. Three inexpensive NHL players. Thats the ticket in the salary cap world.

If Anaheim is lucky some team caves and offers a future all star. Thats not likely though. It will be three solid players. All young and inexpensive or not yet drafted.

Not to mention, given his strong play in the playoffs, rumors of his decline are clearly exaggerated. He's still a superstar-impact defenseman at both ends of the ice. Not that I think Philly would trade Carter for him anymore than the Ducks would trade Getzlaf for Lidstrom right now now, but that's not a reflection on his level of play.

But this is Hfboards after all, where some nebulous possible future window of contention is better than having one of the favorites in the here and now.

I love this post.

As I said, the Flyers wouldn't trade for one year of Pronger, but he is far from washed up. The guy is an animal, and I'd love to see him in Philly. If he and Hiller were signed for 3 years, there's no doubt in my mind the Flyers would strongly consider doing the deal, even at Prongers age.

These boards remind me of a Fantasy Hockey Keeper League most of the time. Everyone always trying to get younger and win some future Cup sometime in some future year. Always makes me grin

I think the organization made a decision to move one of them back when traded for Whitney and 4 million dollar salary.

Keeping pronger would require that a high salary defenseman goes, and given the organization's loyalty to Niedermayer (and the cost to get Whitney), i don't think they'll keep Pronger.

Slight re-tool might have been a poor choice of words. In the trade deadline, the team traded older vets for young roster players (minus the SJ trade). I think thats the approach they'll take here too.

I see them targeting teams disappointed in the playoffs and wanting/pressued to win now (i.e. Washington/Boston).

You do realize that that they could be signed to extensions during the trade process....

Yes, I most certainly do, but the fact remains that at this present time, they are UFA's. Who even knows what kind of money or term they are looking for?

As I said, if they were both able to be extended for 3 years, at a rate that would work within the Flyers' salary cap structure, then I'm sure that Philly management would take a serious look at it, no question.
