Nah I didn't think you talked him down, but I don't think it's fair to say "Timonen is a WHOLE class better than Souray". That's like me saying Gilbert is a WHOLE class better than Chara. You see what I mean?
No, I don't. Chara is better than Gilbert. Timonen is better than Souray. I like Souray's game, but Timonen is better at the position.
The same as Souray has blown more 100+ mph slapshots past goaltenders then Kimmo ever will. He has also punched out more people them Kimmo every will too.
EDIT: He's also a very snappy dresser.
if you're comparing stats, you should understand that the flyers don't really encourage offensive production from their defensemen. it's defense first, offense maybe. the flyers get enough production out of their forwards.
and timonen has had a 55 pt season before, so its not like he's not a scorer.
Ok to end this arguement once and for all, I was all for Timonen before SOuray came by the Oilers. I remember hoping the Oilers would go after him during the summer but when Philly made the trade, I was next gunning for Rafalski (even though he was destined for Detroit). Then when Souray came I was like "Ok, maybe his defensive numbers a bloated and had a terrible season defensively". But he turned it around in a second and now he's a force to be reckoned with. Still, I am just as happy as having Souray than having Timonen right now.

How many more pucks has Kimmo kept out of his own net one way or another? How many times has Kimmo lofted the puck softly to the opposing goal line to clear it and get fresh legs out instead of taking an icing? How many more times has Kimmo fully extended with one hand on his stick to coral a clearing attempt on a power play (he does this once or twice a game where I am looking like 'wow, he got to that?')? These are just examples of the little things he consistently does on top of being a great all-purpose defenseman. The only area of the ice I would give Souray the advantage is in the corners.

You're right. I am tired of my Flyers suffering from a candy-ass reputation. We need our first pairing defenseman taking majors against the goons of the league, not Riley Cote.
