Well, the question is not one of talent vs. talent, or even proven player vs. unproven player.

It simply makes little sense for the Islanders - light years away from contending - to take on a 29 year old and his incredible, incredible contract (still has 10 years at an average of 7.5 million per).

There's just far too much baggage and financial commitment on that move for a team whose chief concern is finding a profitable venue to play at.

In addition, we're in a rebuild - Lecavalier is an attempt at a quick fix.... this team needs to see the rebuild through and in doing so, they have a master plan from within their own organization that they can follow: try and emulate what the original Islander dynasty did. No quick fixes were sought there... just good old drafting and developing, and a nice trade or two once the homegrowns were ripe for the cup.

In Wang's financial situation, and the difficulty with the Lighthouse project, there is a good argument to go with this plan the whole nine yards.

If we were in a win-now mode, and we were missing a #1 centre, I'd trade anything for Lecavalier. BUT, we're not. We're still rebuilding and that 1st overall pick is pivotal to the rebuilding process.

Lecavalier will never be an Islander, which sucks because I'm a big fan of his. Trading for him is a very Milbury-esque move.

Isles made offers to ufas Ryan Smyth,Drury and Gomez.Only to be spurned by them all(thankfully). That's when the isles decided they'd have to build with homegrown talent.Isles know the top ufas aren't signing with them.

Also, they like the progress several of their kids showed in Gordon's first yr.Not surprising that Snow would indicate the youth movement would continue, that more youngsters would be developing on next yr's roster. That doesn't mean the isles are tanking.

Jesus, the tears are delicious. If you bothered reading any part of the thread, I clarified what I meant and it was based off what somebody told me. I said I would retract it if I was mistaken and did.

OMGZ someone was wrong on the internets!!!!

It can easily lead to (US) Federal RICO charges.
I had thought snow said next year would be more rebuilding. Obviously they won't purposefully try to tank. That would be illegal.

That can't be translated in any other way, stop trying to cover yourself up after the fact.

It's called a hyperbole. "Next year will be more rebuilding" (Which as I understand now, he didn't say, so I retracted my statement) is the polite way of saying "F--- it, we're going to suck again" in my mind.

Read it as you wish. If I was going to say outlandish statements for fun to try to rile people up, I'd direct it at a fan base with more than a handful of people.

Good day to you.

To TBL - Alex Edler, Kevin Bieksa, and Vancouver's 1st 09

To NYI - 2nd overall pick and Vancouver's 2nd (or possibly 3rd)I figure if Tampa Trades 2nd overall they will be after D. They get 2 top 4 D. Edler who has a cannon and has top pairing potential and an Ed Jovanoski near clone (though without Jovo's speed). And I think Garth Snow doesn't deal the first overall pick but keeps and like Atlanta in 99 can pick whoever they want but player A (Tavares in this case).
Overall proposal:
Ty Wishart as a 4-6 defenseman example:

Just one last thing on the Isles tanking on purpose stuff.

Please call out the other teams who have said, "Next year will be a rebuilding year for us."

Luongo isn't enough for a draft pick and a backup goalie? Right.

Yes...Luongo is not enough for the 1st overall pick (best shot at a franchise player) and Mike Smith (Definitely not a backup...or at least not looking like one). Luongo is worth a 1st round pick, and prospect....just not that specific package.

St. Louis was still rebuilding prior to the start of this season. Did they suck?
