Edm/NJ idea.

White,Clarkson and Cormier for Gilbert and Cogliano.

This gives the Devils a great young player in Cogliano and a young number 2 d-man.

The oil get some toughness and a great stay at homer d-man that they need so badly.

i like it, gives us a playmaking centre and a puck moving D, without giving up our first.

From an Oiler stanpoint it inserts some sandpaper into our lineup and I really think Clarkson will be a good young 3rd line grit guy that the oilers need to go with all their young skill forwards. Colin White gives us a stopper d-man to help deal with our PK woes.

Cogliano is a center? As for the deal, I guess it's pretty good. And I also believe the Devils need to change things up and get younger.

Cogliano's more of a playmaking RW than a center- he can't win a draw at this stage of his career, but who knows if that changes with time.

He can still replace Gionta and the Devils can go big in the upcoming draft.

If I'm New Jersey I take this and run.

I really like Clarkson and Cormier, but they are nowhere near the same value as Cogliano and especially Gilbert.

Even with white added it doesn't make sense for the Oil, who could get much more in return.

Weren't Devils fans ready to lynch Sutter at some point for how much he was playing Clarkson?

He's 25, so it's not like he's going to get much better.

I know nothing of Cormier, but I don't see how he's a deal breaker here.

Wow...and it wasn't a Devil fan that suggested this?? Wow...

I'm all over this deal, but wait until the Edmonton fans get here and roast the OP.

Really? Losing my mind I guess.

Who did he generally play with? And against? I don't see many Devil games, and missed most of their playoff series as well, so I don't know if Madden is still actually playing the other teams top players, or if that's more of a reputation than fact now (like say, Draper, who hasn't done that gig for years now but still gets credit for it from time to time...)

Still don't like the deal though .

Clarkson played on the third or fourth line but got occasional powerplay minutes.

But yeah as an Oiler fan I respectfully decline even though I love David Clarkson!

Well also like Clarkson and he will fill a hole we have in size and grit and still score so how much is that worth?

How about Cogliano straight up for Clarkson.

from an oiler perspetive I think there are a few problem

While Whie is 1mill a year cheaper then Gilbert--I think Gilbert's upside is greater then what White bring to the table and as an oiler fan--I think we would keep Gilbert iover white by a lot.

That Leaves Clarkson and Comier for Cogs.

Enless Cogs gets injured I think he is the future number 1 center in Edmonton and While Clarkson brings grit and more punch fromm the 3rd line--he is still an energy player on the third line.

The wild card is Comier and judging by some reviews of his play--he will either be really good or a career ahler

I like Clarkson--but for the oilers to give up both Gilbert and Cogs--I don't see enought going back to the oilers.

While not opposed to the deal--I think it may need a tweeking

I think the devils woud need to add a pick either 2nd or a 3rd--Clarksin a 3rd liner and looks to be in the mold of Moreau fromj the oilers, just younger and not so worn down.

I kknow the devil fans would say the one for one offer is plamty enough, but Cogs has more of an upside then Clarkson

I like Clarkson too, but in no way is he worth Cogliano. Nilsson + a later pick maybe, but not Cogs. And, no offence, the OP is a horrible deal. We give up the 2 best pieces imo

I see little point in trading for the type of guys that we can attempt to sign. Let's chase some UFAs first and if we can't get a top 4 stay-at-home and a 3rd line FO winning PKing C from there, then we look into trades. But if we are looking at trades to plug those holes I can think of a lot more guys I'd chase before Clarkson and White.

I don't think Edmonton does it unless NJ adds a first or something. Cogs and Gilbert are young with decent upside, don't see us trading them unless we're getting a better player in return.

I love Clarkson, but I do this in a heartbeat. The Devils answer both pressing needs with this deal.

Except he never plays RW. If he's not playing center, then he's play LW, but he's definately a centerman. The fact that his coaches kept him there despite not being able to win a faceoff to save his life should tell you something.

And the Oilers get absolutely ***** in this deal.

Yes. But we were ready to lynch him for how little Clarkson was playing by the end of the season. Clarkson is good.

This is a pretty even trade, imo, and would probably benefit both teams, but I wouldn't make it if I'm Edmonton.

Even though I'm still not sold on the idea that Cogliano will ever become a consistent first line player (or even a very good 2nd liner), it's still a possibility with some development and the right linemates. I still think it's too early to trade him, unless you are getting players with equally high potential in return. I would wait another year before making this type of trade.
