Stumpel to return?

There's a rumor that Stumpel has been offered a contract to return to the Panthers:

Original source from Kazakhstan, where his KHL team, Barys Astana plays.

The solution to our problem at center! Great!!!!!!! Man, I hope this is setting us up to get Taylor Hall. He looks like a stud.

JM should be fired if this is real.

So, we bought him out, just to bring him back? Isn't he still under the cap as a buyout next year?

No, don't think this is true.

Don't believe it for a second. He was too slow for JMs system. No way he works under PDB.

Can't be a whiff of truth to this from the Florida side. Iron Mike brought him here in the first place, so chalk it up to a Calgary rumor.

This absolutely, positively cannot be true. Maybe they'd bring him back to be the top center in the AHL but not a chance he plays on the big club. Like someone said, he's just way too slow for a team that's building around speed.

Why would we want him back again?

We need someone to fill our Slovakian quota.

Doesn't Olesz fill the financial role of three Slovakians?

That may be the case if he's getting signed, but it still doesn't make much sense. I'm pretty sure his buyout is still on the books for next season. (cap wise)

Didn't he have a two year deal, then re-upped for one year? Translated: 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08?

Wasn't he a free agent (per the NHL) when he left North America or am I missing the point entirely?

I'm not certain on this.

On the same note, if the dood under contract leaves to play elsewhere (i.e. another league), isn't the cap hit negated? Basically: the player decided not to honor the contract and play somewhere else (not the organization's fault).

Retirement is entirely different, I realize, as is long-term Injured Reserve.

Need several law degrees to sift through all of this...

Stumps was bought out, meaning the remaining deal (which would have been last season) stretches out over two. Not sure of the wording, but an amount of the deal is counted against our cap during that time.

He's under our cap next year for .750: http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=FLA&season=0809

No, Rusty is a Czech.

As for the rumor, it just seems like nonsense, or at least I hope it is.

He signed a new contract with Barys yesterday despite the numerous offers arrived from the NHL. He said he fit well in Astana, his children gets a good school and wife is happy.
