Nill: Helm will not see the minors again

Our poster boy has paid his dues:

During the 2nd period CBC mentioned Jim Nill said Darren Helm would not see the minors again.

Great work, Darren. They call him "Taz" at A2Y. Let him know that Ti-Girl.

This is great news if it's true. He's absolutely earned it with his play last playoffs alone, and he's playing even better this year, he's gonna be a workhorse for a bunch of years.

nothing really new here, Kenny said there'd be 4 guys up from GR next year, and he's right behind the Rig at the top of the list.

Abdelkader will play on the top line next year in GR and come up for the playoffs imo.

I agree unless they have "giving up" on Howard and keep him down (would he have to clear waivers?)

as others have said, Gator's not quite ready to bump someone for a spot (which would probably have to happen for him to stick w/ the Wings.)
with Leino and Haydar likely moving on, it'll be a good year for him to continue asserting himself on a top line w/ the Griffs.

and yes, mottjm, both Ericsson and Howard would have to clear waivers (not happening in the Rig's case, not likely in Howie's case.)

Abdelkader's time is probably not next season, but the one after when Matlby's contract is up.

How many organizations can say that about a player who steps into a long cup run and doesn't look the least bit out-of-place?

Yep. They will be Abs on the first line in GR, give him 20+ minutes a night, and let him play in all situations. Then, come playoff time, he will be up with us and will probably battle Maltby or Kopecky (assuming he is re-signed) for a spot on the fourth line.

I struggle to put into words how good he is. Look at Franzen's goal, it was virtually created due to Helm's hit.

He is unbelievably quick, he hits everything that moves, he brings energy to every single shift. He creates scoring chances because of his speed and his willingness to crash into bodies. What about last night, Chicago had 2 players behind the net who were both a bit casual and Helm flies in and wins control of the puck.

He is a very, VERY good player.

I think you're right. Abdelkader isn't ready for the Wings. He should be in GR for another season.

Abdelkader will do what Helm did last year. Babcock has brought him up to give him a taste of the big time, same as he did with Helmer last year.

Helmer has established himself as part of this team and it is obvious that he is going to be a replacement for Kris Draper after next season.

Kader will come up for some games next year and be a part of the finals run next season putting himself in the mix for a first team slot in 2010 -11.

This is how the Wings become so dominant. You start as a grind liner and work you way up (Unless you are a stud), you earn your stipes and you put your time in.

I can see Darren Helm being a great 3rd line center scoring 20 -25 goals a year, all he has to do is work on his face offs and he can do that by spending a summer with Drapes

this is not news. Helm is out of options. The news will be in whose spot he takes. I hate to let this sink in right now, but my avatar may offer a clue.

He is not out of options. He could have one more year in the minors.

Not only that , but has anyone noticed how many PP chances he gives the Wings....he is usually held or hooked due to his blazing speed ,or he is roughed up after the whistle following a clean hit.

It will be nice to have a speedster that can also score goals.

20-25 is a bit of a stretch, but I'd take it.

Also, his faceoffs are one of his best strong points....
