NEWS REPORT: Stanley Cup Finals Information

IF either Chicago OR Carolina win their next game and extend the series, the Stanley Cup Finals won't start until the next Saturday/Sunday @ the Joe, but if the Wings & Pens finish there teams off in the next game the Series will start this Saturday/Sunday at the Joe (this is information I just picked up from Sirius 97 HNIC Radio) ... **** you NBC

Considering our recent injury troubles, we should be pulling for Carolina while we wrap things up with Chicago and get healthy again.

I really don't get the back to back for game 1 on Saturday and Sunday (With Sunday likely being afternoon to boot). With Lidstrom and Datsyuk banged up this is really a disadvantage.

As long as the Wings beat the Hawks, I now almost prefer it would be in game 6 in Chicago, so we have more time before the finals start.

DING DING DING DING

If you thought the NHL was bad during the Anaheim series, you ain't seen nothing yet.

It's really funny that this "change" was announced as soon as Detroit was missing it's two top players. HA!

The finals will likely start 2-3 days after the last game anyway, the NHL won't give Detroit a chance to recover from the cheapshots Chicago will no doubt try as the series ends.

While I can definitely see why this is a disadvantage for your team, certainly, having those important injuries, would you not agree that from a league point of view, it is less than desirable to have the two teams wait 10 and 9 days respectively to get the show on the road?

Ultimately, even with all the tin foil hats I know are out there, it is the NHL playoffs and injuries to either side ought have no impact on scheduling. We'd have one more rest day than you after having disposed of our opponent in 4.

All Carolina had to do was win one game to prevent this, pathetic. So i guess tomorrow will be a win/win situation.

Funny, isnt the point of finishing off opponents quickly is to get the most rest? Yet here, its actually the later you finish, the more rest you get. Embarrasing.

If Dats and Lidstrom don't play tonight, I fully expect that they will throw the game and take their chances. If the Finals started on Saturday, with Dats and Lids out, with two games in two days...that is a steep hill to climb.

Enough with the mind****, NHL...

It's stupid how the NHL is basing the scheduling around NBC, rather than the scheduling that has been used for the entire playoffs. Sure, it helps the marketability, but you wouldn't see the NFL making their schedule fit the networks availability.

Then again Dats and Lids don't play, and the Wings do manage to win without them, they'll have had a week (More than a week) to rest by the time Saturday rolls around.

IF I were a mod, I would close this thread until we win this series... whenever that might be.

Damn the injuries, full speed ahead.

Okay, maybe 1/4 speed with arms stuck out the windows to signal turns.

Seriously, anybody still healthy?

The Saturday/Sunday thing is still epically stupid. It's a disadvantage to both teams and illustrates what I think is Bettman's most glaring shortcoming: a total lack of understanding, or disregard, for what it takes to actually play the games.

Also, question the logic of having back2back games, likely resulting in a fatigued second game, in the NHL's biggest showcase.

Yes, but both teams will be fatigued equally.

I'm wondering if they get more revenue from NBC then they do Versus.

Both teams should be fatigued equally, but do you want to spend your time watching fatigued players, or do you want to watch players that are 100%?
