i think the 3rd pairing will be traded.

Barker + Sopel = 5,3 Mio
another 3rd (good enough for a cup run) = 2,5 Mio

IMO Barker is just terrible on defense. He has horrible instincts and does a whole lotta puck watching.

I think either steeger or Buff will be moved in the off-season.. Both will grab a decent return... Maybe Sharp but I really hope not.. I think we can replace atleast one top-6 forward within our organization.. Everybody think we should off-load Campbell (yes i know he´s got an awfull contract) but we can´t replace him within... Better get a cheap top defender ?? when we trade some of our forwards...

My first thought is that punctuation is your friend. Secondly, I think Steeger is the first to go followed by Sopel and Barker if necessary.

Sopel now, Versteeg and Barker at the deadline/offseason. Maybe Buff in the Offseason.

Um what about Versteeg? Think they would send him back home to alberta to play with Calgary? What would it take to fetch Versteeg. Obviously you guys have a well rounded team so I am not to sure what this transaction would be. Any thoughts?

I'm going to maintain my thought that Dustin Byfuglien, Cam Barker and Brent Sopel are all gone by next August.

We have some guys in the organization that can replace Buff (Bickell, Aliu, Dowell, Beach), who's biggest asset to the team is standing in front of the goalie. When he isn't doing that, he's usually drawing dumb penalties.

I think most of us agree that Barker and/or Sopel is gone because LaLonde and/or Olsen will be up next year on the third pair.

My only thing w/ Steeger is that he's younger and handles the puck pretty well. He's also a million cheaper than Sharp. We have bangers in the system, but I don't think we have someone to handle the puck the way Versteeg does.

Byfuglien , Versteeg and Barker are all gonna be gone next year because of our CAP issues unless we can move Campbell.

Ladd will likely also be gone

And as for Barker I think Connelly will be up with Hawks next year. He is playing well for Ice Hogs and should be ready

I'd like to see Connelly as a powerplay specialist. Either him or Lalonde could go along way in replacing Barkers PP contribution and there wouldn't be much of a drop off defensively.

Why all the dislike for Hossa around here? The guy is a stud especially at his hit.

Campbell is the only complaint...oh, and Barker but whatever.

Huet is the man between the pipes and he's got my vote any day of the week these days.

E: This thread is riddled with horrible trade offers as well. Shame on you fellow Hawk fans.

Hey guys, not trying to "troll" here but I'm curious how cap adept Chicago fans think they're going to deal with the cap next season assuming Kane and Toews do get 6.3mil contracts and Keith gets 5.5mil.

I posted this in another thread, so, let me know how you guys would crunch the numbers.

If we go with...

Hossa(5.23)-Toews(6.3)-Kane(6.3)
Byfuglien(3)-Versteeg(3.1)-Sharp(3.9)
xxx-Bolland(3.375)-Brouwer(1)
xxx-xxx-Kopecky(1.2)

Keith(5.5)-Seabrook(3.5)
Campbell(7.14)-xxx
Barker(3.1)-Sopel(2)

Huet(5.625)
xxx

Notable RFA's: Ladd, Hjalmarsson

So this is what you guys have to work with.. That's like 60mil and change going into next season with 5 players to sign. If Sharp, Sopel and Barker go you're left with a 51mil cap hit; you then need to fill in 8 roster spots (including a top 6 forward and top 4 d-man). That leaves you VERY tight against the cap and your depth will be ****.

You do have options though... If you could dump Sharp, Campbell, and Huet that would leave ya with a 43.3mil cap hit for next year. You'd need to play with a 3mil or so goalie (46.5mil), a 2mil top 6 spot (48.5mil), 3 bottom 6 players avg. at 1mil per (51.5mil), a back up goalie at league minimum (52mil), and then one decent defenseman at 2mil (54mil) and two depth defenders for cheap (55.5mil). Now, what it's going to cost to dump Campbell and Huet? Who knows since you can take ZERO salary back.

Point is you arent screwed but the worst is still ahead. What's gonna happen?

We're touched. Feels guilty to just take Demitra for Sharp. We may have to throw in Ladd to equal it out a bit.

This was my "worst case" roster I came up with

Brouwer (1.025) - Toews (6.3) - Kane (6.3)
Beach (1.20) - Bolland (3.375) - Hossa (5.25)
Ladd (1.85) - Kopecky (1.2) - Skille (1.00)
Bickell (0.70) - Fraser (0.80) - Burish (1.00)
Aliu (0.846)

Keith (5.5) - Seabrook (3.9)
Campbell (7.143) - Hammer (2.0)
Connelly (0.875) - Hendry (0.800)

Huet (5.625)
Niemi (1.000)

So that involves moving Versteeg/Sharp/Byfuglien/Barker/Sopel/Eager/Madden

And it also implies that we get absolutely nothing back for the first four guys, which is untrue. Not to mention that Marakov/Kruger could also be featuring for us in 2010.

ya im not trolling either but in all honesty the hawks fans can boast about hossa, kane, and toews all they want, but theres no depth after this year and its pretty noticeable..

hossa cap hit of 5.23 moves to 7.89 next year (nhlnumbers) and w that the hawks will have kane, toews hossa keith campbell and huet all signed for 5+

Hossa 7.9
Kane 6.3
Toews 6.3
Campbell 7.1 LOL
Huet 5.625 LOL
Keith 5.5

equals 38.725 million for 6 players..lol but thats awful commitment to the rest of the team..

Campbell 7.1 million? making 400,000 less than 100000 time norris trophy winner nick lidstrom

huet 5.5 being paid 300,000 more than Martin Brodeur..lol

Kane and Toews being paid 6.3 million when they havent even proven themselves..lol

eekkk--chi fans have to be scratching their heads at reality..

I'm only scratching my head on why the hell you keep saying Hossa's cap hit will magically increase after this year.

umm..his contract was structured that way..every year his cap hit increases...lol

duhhhhhhhhh dont u know cba rules and cap hits?? his contract of 7.9 chi willl have to pay in full after this year..the cap hit for kane and toews most likely wouldnt be the full 6.3 but still chi will now have 8 players making more than 5 million and thats dangerous to a hockey club via salary cap world

and either way..hossa or no hossa, hawks still = cap trouble for years to come, unless kane toews keith take hometown discounts, huet is shipped out for cheaper goal tending (ie detroit ) --only way chi is going to remain powerhouse is to build like det. loaded upfront, solid defense, marginal goalie being paid less than 2 mil...not 6 $$ what is he Pat Roy???

Of course it keeps increasing. In fact, on the last year of his contract, his cap hit will be $23.4 million. Kinda high, but well worth it for a 42 year old.

xfd learn the cap rules

Hossa's cap hit is the total amount of his contract divided by the length. He makes 7.9 mil this year and his cap hit is 5.275. He will make 7.9 mil next year and his cap hit is 5.275. He will make 1 mil in 2020 and his cap hit will be 5.275
