Jlockhart89's Mock Draft #1 (June 2)

Hi folks, this is my first shot at a mock draft this season. I don't think I went to terribly outside of the box on to many pick.

I appreciate all comments/criticism. Please share your thoughts.

1. NYI - John Tavares
2. TB - Victor Hedman
3. COL - Matt Duchene
4. ATL - Evander Kane
5. L.A. - Magnus Paajarvi-Svennson
6. PHX - Jared Cowen
7. TOR - Brayden Schenn
8. DAL - Dmitri Kulikov
9. OTT - Nazim Kadri
10. EDM - Scott Glennie
11. NSH - Jordan Schroeder
12. MIN - Oliver Ekman-Larsson
13. BUF - Ryan Ellis
14. FLA - David Rundblad
15. ANH - Simon Despres
16. CLB - John Moore
17. STL - Zack Kassian
18. MTL - Louis Leblanc
19. NYR - Jacob Josefson
20. CAL - Chris Kreider
21. PHI - Jeremy Morin
22. VAN - Calvin De Haan
23. NJD - Peter Holland
24. WSH - Landon Ferraro
25. BOS - Nick Leddy
26. NYI (SJ) - Kyle Palmieri
27. CAR - Carter Ashton
28. CHI - Drew Shore
29. PIT - Stefan Elliott
30. DET - Tim Erixon

Couple of thoughts and concerns:
- I'm torn with the Ottawa pick, I know Murray mentioned scouting a D-man they feel COULD be more talented then Hedman (presumably OEL) but I also feel they may go with an OHL forward with Kadri.

- Likewise with my Oilers, I feel they elect to go with a quick talented forward with a bit of potential sand paper in Glennie, despite OEL being on the board.

- Rundblad's all over the board, is 14 to Florida to early?

- I feel like I took the lazy man's pick (and seemingly popular choice amongst other mocks) with Montreal and picked the highest rated French Canadian. May be a little high for Leblanc.

- Holland feels like he dropped to far.

- My 26-30 picks feel like a complete crapshoot.

Once again, please share your thoughts/concerns.

I just have a hard time seeing the Rangers passing on Kreider.

I personally think that Ottawa takes OEL if he is still available. Aparently after the scouting combine OEL's stock may have risen, he had a pretty good showing there.

See that was one of my thoughts as well, but i wondered if the emergence of Karlsson might push the Sens to draft a pure offensive talent for their pipeline.

First of all I would like to say this looks like a great Mock Draft from a fellow Oilers fan. There are just a few things I would change such as Oliver Ekman-Larsson going to Ottawa there have been rumours the Senators are very high on a European defence prospect not named Hedman and all signs point to him. Also I'm not completely sold on Morin being a first round pick with his attitude and suspension from the NTDP this year although I believe going the CHL route next year with Kitchener will really be great for him and he could turn out to be a steal if he lasts until the second round. Also although Pheonix has a great number of forward prospects in their system I just can't see them letting Schenn fall into Toronto's laps without gaining a mid-round pick to let Toronto move up. Just my two cents but I really agree with the rest of your picks. Great Mock Draft!

I do agree that Toronto may trade up with Phoenix for the opportunity to draft Schenn

New York Jets pick 23rd?

Anyway, I like the Peter Holland pick for the Devils.

It is if it means he's not available to the Canucks

DeHaan seems like a popular choice for the Canucks but I'm just not sure. If they go defense, I'd rather see Erixon since Rundblad's gone. If they go forward, Ashton holds some appeal. Who they have ranked as BPA is anyone's guess though.

Great effort.

Ha, not sure what I was thinking there.

BTW Do you feel Holland will be gone by 23? I do think he's a good fit for the Devils though.

I hope the Leafs will get Kane or MSP instead of Schenn.

I also hope Ethan Werek doesn't get drafted in the first, so the leafs have a shot at him as well.

I don't think either Kane or MPS drops that far.

As for Werek, I have him in that 32-36 range but he may still be there for the Leafs.

Agreed, thought other route would be Burke calling Phoenix and telling them they better pass on him because Leafs (and other high profit teams) payed a lot of money to teams like Phoenix to stay afloat and they better give something in return.

I hope that's sarcasm, the day a GM tried to make another GM trade him a valuable asset because his team and other have financially helped out would be the day that GM would get laughed out of the league.
