Call me delusional then. I admitedly don't know enough about Skille but taking on a contract like Huet's would be silly when they finally have some bad contracts (Tucker, Clark, Salei to name a few) coming off the books after next season. Huet isn't a terrible goaltender but he certainly does not justify paying him the 5.6 million dollar cap hit for the next three seasons for a team in complete rebuilding mode. Maybe I'm wrong but the potential value (Skille, 2nd round pick) does not make up for that terrible contract. Colorado needs to suffer through next season, and make the RIGHT moves when they have the cap flexibility to improve their team in the 2010 and 2011 offseaons. Taking on Huet's contract would be a move in the wrong direction.
I heard Chicago does have a real goalie who might become available. His name is Khabibulin.
Why give up assets for a mediocre/decent goalie who has never even strung together back to back 50 games played seasons? He's signed to a terrible contract for many years, rather just go after Khabi.
I would rather the Avs go with Budaj than trade for Huet. They simply have way more problems than goaltending and will be a bottom feeder for the next 2+ seasons. The upgrade from Budaj to Huet is like going from a pile of dog crap to a pile of dog crap sprayed with cologne. It may stink less but its still something you dont want.
I would hope the only way the Avs get Huet is re-entry waivers.
Chicago won't trade Huet if Khabibulin leaves or retires. Huet is a solid starter. 5.625 million for Huet is much, he might not play like Brodeur or Thomas who have similar contracts. But he's worth more the Adam Foote.
