Other notables left on the board:

Shore
O'Reily
Ferraro
Morin
Klingberg
Elliott
All gone but Elliott haha

What is with Chicago scouting the minor minor leagues?

They pick Brandon Pirri who played in the OJHL, he is a center

We drafted seven centers and two defensemen.

David Gilbert will definitely be a very interesting project for the Black Hawks.

We sure drafted enough centers. I am not too sure about Pirri. His stats are definetly impressive, but he didn't stick out much in that video Teemu posted. The level of competition is a bit startling as well. He needs to take some major strides in improving his game starting this year if he wants to have a shot of even making the AHL squad 2-3 years down the road.

This is probably the first time in five years i've said im disappointed in the Blackhawks draft and didnt like the approach they used... it almost seemed like they were being cocky and taking a "I am smarter then you" approach to the trade taking alot of kids who played in lower levels then most guys picked. I'm usually stoked about at least one pick but im not. I like a few like Gilbert and Olsen mostly but we'll see hope they become diamonds in the rough.

Avatars coming tonight...

I'm happy that Gilbert was picked by a team I like. I'm surprised he fell that much though, he was the 22nd player taken from the Q but he should have been higher compared to others. Anyway, his work ethic this year is what really made him fall in the draft because he's got second round skill for sure. He just needs to work on his game along the boards, get stronger and be more constant. He could turn out to be a real steal in the 7th round, only time will tell.

As for after the 1st rd ...
* Brian Dumoulin sounds good. Big defenseman that can skate well, offensive and defensive. Not great competition in Maine HS and EJHL, though. Going to Boston College next season. 2nd or 3rd rd, I guess.
* Danny Mattson. Minnesota HS. Really fast, great stickhandler. 3rd rd?
* Brandon Pirri. Had 46 goals and 94 points in 44 games in OPJHL. Going to RPI (or maybe the OHL).
Very nice call on this one.

We had shots at Klingberg, Rajala (repeatedly), Shore, and so much more. I have to say, I'm quite disappointed in this draft. On the other hand, if i was the Islanders, outside of Tavares, I'd be downright pissed the **** off too.

We had a crack at so much. I will allow that I ultimately don't know **** about upcoming talent...but we read the same stuff as everyone else....and we passed on a lot of it. If the well known names pan out, and our picks don't...it'll be a ringing indictment on our scouting.

We've had great picks over the past several years...mostly because we've sucked ass and have picked at no-brainer positions. This is the first year we've had to exhibit some real drafting prowess...and I'm just not impressed.

I think anyone passing judgement, or even being "impressed" or not hours after the draft is over should have his or her head examined.

Ringing indictment of our scouting? Most the names you mentioned were passed over repeatedly by EVERYONE. It's not like Chicago was the only team to decide to draft someone else.

I expected we'd take Ashton over Olsen but it seems like a perfectly reasonable pick there. He's got more upside than Ashton or Klingberg, I think, although I'm not really hip to the Junior A guys that much.

If I was an Islanders fan, I'd be freaking hyped about De Haan, he's really good.

I would have bragged about pointing out Pirri, but the guy I listed right above him (somehow) went undrafted.

What was that song by Meatloaf... Two out of Three ain't bad.

I think everyone would have slotted Mattson to get picked so no shame there.

Still an excellent call.

Bingo. You have no idea who if any of these guys will make it until a couple of years pass. Personally I'll take the scouting department and brain trust of the Blackhawks over some random dude posting on the internet.

Agreed - Dale mentioned several times in interviews that they felt great about who they got, when they got them. I'm glad to see the Hawks are not the team drafting the big names (like NYI going Tavares) just to keep people satisfied.
