Thrashers 2004 draft evaluation

The 2004 draft was not a good one for the Thrashers.

No kidding. That was a rough one. Grant Lewis still has an outside shot at becoming a player and I'm heartened by the fact that Valabik has fared better than some of the higher profile prospects we passed over to get him (Tukonen and Thelen) but apart from that this was a very bad draft for us.

2005 is where things started turning around as far as the draft goes. With the exception of Bourret of course.

My favorite series of the year. I'm putting together an article that will compare the 30 teams on per-pick average. So far LA is the bottom. Vancouver did surprisingly well in 2004. There was value to be had here if you looked in the right spots.

I would say that the good thing to come of 2005, Pavelec, was the exception. Bourret, Denny, Kozek aren't improvements over 2004. Pavelec will be the only player out of that class if Zubarev doesn't come over. Though at least there was learning to move down and get more picks.

2006 seems to have been an improvement, but the jury is still out.

Is there a chance that Denny ever makes it to the NHL?

Nope. He was playing as a 4th line forward due to forward injuries and a large amount of d-men in Chicago last season. His slapshot is the only thing he has going for him. It caused one of the rookie goalies to duck out of the way during last years prospect camp.
