Wellar's been added, but I'll hold off on adding Collins/Ramsey until we can find some confirmation. Thanks for the info!

I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is any advantage to a parent team. (say the Canucks) when their farm team (say the Moose) signs a player.

Right now Desbiens is signed by the Moose for next year. Does this give the Canucks an advantage if they wanted to sign Desbiens to a two way NHL contract for the coming season?

It might make the team and the player more pre-disposed to do a deal together, but if a player is signed to an AHL contract, they are free to sign with any NHL team.

The most recent example I can think of is from last season. Brian Boucher (G) was playing on an AHL contract with the Phantoms, but signed an NHL contract during the season with San Jose.

Found one more:

Texas Stars: Brendan Milnamow (D)
His deal is an AHL 2-way with Texas/Idaho for '09-'10. He played with Idaho at the end of last season for 5 games on an ATO.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins: Lane Caffaro (D)
He played on an ATO at the end of the season with WBS and signed an actual AHL deal on June 16. I know this was previously reported; just adding the link to the article that cites both Milnamow and Caffaro signings.

Just noticed no one has mentioned Quintin Laing has been re-signed by Hershey.

Quote:
HERSHEY – The 2009 Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears announced today that left wing Quintin Laing has been signed for the upcoming 2009-10 season. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Laing, 30, returns after first making his HERSHEY debut in 2006-07. The Rosetown, SK native has made two trips to the Calder Cup Finals in the last three seasons, and was a part of his first Cup winner this past Friday as the BEARS defeated the Manitoba Moose four games to two. Laing played one game for Washington this past season, suffering a torn spleen in the game on March 19 at Tampa Bay. He returned in May to help guide the BEARS to its 10th Calder Cup in franchise history. Laing was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Found it on the Bears site and the article said Yingst made the announcement, so I just figured it was an AHL contract.

I found an article directly from the Manitoba Moose website that confirms Dusty Collins and Travis Ramsey ARE under contract next year. From all of my records, I can only find that they are both under AHL contract (list of Canucks prospects does not list either of them as Vancouver property).

http://www.moosehockey.com/moosenews/407/1023

Moose contracts status report

FREE AGENTS
Jason Krog, Jason Jaffray, Nolan Baumgartner, Mike Keane, Michel Ouellet, Curtis Sanford, Mark Cullen, Matt Pope, Greg Rallo, Todd Ford, Derek Nesbitt, Tommy Maxwell

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
Shaun Heshka, Nathan McIver, Zack FitzGerald

UNDER CONTRACT (VANCOUVER OR MANITOBA)
Cory Schneider, Michael Grabner, Alexandre Bolduc, Mario Bliznak, Guillaume Desbiens, Dusty Collins, Travis Ramsey, Taylor Ellington, P.C. Labrie, Eric Walsky, Evan Oberg, Daniel Rahimi

CONTRACTS WITH DALLAS STARS
Mark Fistric (restricted free agent), Max Fortunus, Ray Sawada

NHL OR JUNIOR
Cody Hodgson

DRAFT ELIGIBLE
Travis Ehrhardt

Basically I went through my Canucks prospect list and eliminated player-by-player until I had only Moose guys and Collins and Ramsey were remaining amongst those players. I hope this makes sense.

Until next time, Ciao-

Rockford signs British defenseman David Phillips:

http://www.belfastgiants.com/archive...ockford-bound/

Quote:
The Belfast Giants are proud to announce that young Team GB star, David Phillips has signed for the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks’ top affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. Davy was to return to Belfast for a second successive season after cementing his place on the Giants’ roster in what was a highly successful 2008-09 season for the 21 year old, but after impressing at an evaluation camp in Chicago last week, he was offered a two way contract by the IceHogs of the AHL with the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators.
