offensive? are we talking about the same players?

Of course the Canes would trade them if the right offer was made but I doubt they would be pursuing a trade considering how bare this team's cupboards are of offensive forwards.

Simply put, No. Young Rebuilding teams don't trade forwards under the age of 24 with a lot of offensive upside. Vrbata has finally started to put up a few points under Laviolette and Zigomanis is getting his first shot at a decent amount of icetime.

I'd say the two cases aren't really related ...

Vrbata ... based on his last 15 games or so, I'd say there's a fair chance that he might actually grasp Laviolette's system after all. I had nearly given up hope after his first couple of months under the new coach. Verb has some serious upside if he ever gets the fact that he's got to go HARD a lot more often, and that he's got to pay a physical price to get himself into positions to score. If the right offer came along, there'd probably be no real reluctance on the part of JR to take it ... but I doubt he's got Vrbata on the "for sale" list either.

Zigomanis is one of those tweener guys that it's hard to judge. Based on his success at the AHL level you'd have to say he's got the instincts and the skills to be a playmaking centerman ... but his lack of speed seems to keep him JUST a step away from being in the right position to make a play at the NHL level. MAYBE he can overcome his lack of athleticism with time and experience ... and maybe not. Either way he's probably not worth much in the market ... because any real scout will spot the same issues Canes management has seen without a whole lot of effort.

Bottom line ... these guys are probably around for next season unless some other GM just takes a shine to one of them for some strange reason.

Right on, and never more evident than last night when Zig was nicely set up twice for a couple of good chances but just couldn't get to the spot. I like his savvy and game but he needs to get quicker.
