Tuesday when he was the first to report the Oilers were getting Quinn and Renney

but seriously isnt e4 when he has heard it from a legit source?... all this take is someone from either Calgary or Florida telling him that the Panthers made an offer for Phaneuf... maybe even Sutter made a counter offer... just because something is discussed doesn't mean it will happen

He looked like a #4-5 defenseman all of this season and was a vortex of suck defensively.

I hope the Flames don't get JBo.

Eklund failed to mention that Phaneuf to Florida...was for a vacation. E4 on that for sure as he is still debating bewteen Florida and Costa Rica. That's why it's not an E5.

the guy was also playing close to 30 minutes a night since October with a hip that needs to be surgically repaired... IMO the Flames should have pushed harder for the surgery instead of letting Dion play through it

Sorry, but that's wrong. Local media guys in Edmonton have been talking about the Coaching duo for 2 weeks. Eklund was not the first.

Actually what's really funny, as the E# system indicates the number of sources to the rumour, is the idea that more sources = more likely. Since when does quantity beat out quality? As Eklund claims to have insider sources, if a team is planning on making a move then you only need 1 good source to confirm it. Get a second source from the other team confirming its something both sides are interested in, and you have a solid rumour.

That's all you need, 1 or 2 sources for a rumour. This concept Eklund has that the more sources the stronger the rumour is just absurd.

Wow,
Ek should check out his own site more often, on May 6th his rumor was an E3 and....

"Just following up on a rumor I am chasing that would send Dion Phaneuf to Florida for Jay Bo's rights and "3 or 4 other assets" obviously those "assets" are huge in this situation.."

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=21084

How did it go from that to Dion + for Bouw?

Trade makes no sense. I wouldn't buy it even if I didn't know Eklund was a joke.

personally, i wouldnt even buy another GM a beer in exchange for the "rights" too a player. especially when the guy is 30 some days away from the open market.

Us Panther fans have been talking about it since we saw it here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapa...n-calgary.html

Sounds like the core of the would be Phanuef for Bouw and a 1st

since JayBo will be testing free agency what would calgary get for this trade ? Florida gets a player for....what ? Negotiating rights ?

It doesn't make any sense to me for Calgary to give up a player when Jaybo is clearly going to test FA.

This trade is plausible on 2 accounts:

1. The trade is not for Jay's rights, but is a sign and trade. This only makes sense to me on the basis of hearsay that Bouwmeester wanted to play for a Canadian team, correct?

2. Theres something more to Phaneuf that other GMs know - but isnt apparent to all fans - that would make Calgary want to trade him, but without Phanny having great trade value. Similar to how Jokinen being traded was thought to be (ZOMG) a terrible trade, yet it turns out that Jokinen was a bad influence on Florida's young core, and didn't have the best of attitudes.

The only way this makes sense is if Calgary is getting some young prospects or picks back along with J-Bo's rights. Couldn't really be salary coming back, as the whole idea would be to use that cap space to sign J-Bo.

Big risk! J-Bo certainly is an upgrade over Phaneuf in some ways... But overall something about this whole situation just doesn't seem logical.

Calgary would be better off waiting until July 1st, even if it means not getting fair value for Phaneuf after if they do indeed decide to trade him. Still less of a risk... Unless of course they wanna trade Phaneuf anyways, which, doesn't make sense.

E4 = 4% chance of happening

they were speculating it would be Quinn or Renney or Laviolette or one of many other potential coaches... I read the thread on the Oilers board for their press conference... no one said definitively who the coaches were and in what capacity until Eklund did

What time did Eklund say it happened, we all knew a good while before the press conference.

the Flames are closing in on a trade that would send Phaneuf PLUS to Florida for Jay Bouwmeester's rights.

The results of an evening playing 'pick the team out of the hat' with his mother must have ultimately led him with a bombshell of a development. His mom probably even gave him her full confidence, thus, the E4.

ONLY way we see a Dio forJB trade is if a contract has already been worked out beforehand.

to trade merely for his rights with no guarantee in place would be just absurd. I don't even think Garth Snow would do that

I don't think an injured hip really take away a player's defensive instincts though. Unfortunately Phaneuf never had much of that in the first place. I'm not saying he's a bad player but I would think a deal centered around Phaneuf and J-bo would be something like Phaneuf + for J-bo if J-bo signs with the Flames so everything would be conditional on J-bo signing.
