I agree, Heatley does get overpayed, but he can back it up on certain nights. I just wish he'd find his 50 goals seasons again.

Don't you mean "whole rebuild"?

This team has been falling apart for a while. Colorado's best player was Sakic, and he's about to retire.

Also, your definition of bad season is what's "terrible". A bad season is missing the playoffs. Finishing last in the west is an atrocity.

Wolski, 3rd overall, Clark (to even out salary somewhat)

for

Heatley, Elliott/Auld, 9th overall.

Sens fans probably won't like it, and frankly, as an Avs fan, Im not a huge fan of it either. Wolski and the third overall (most likely Duchene) are going to be big parts of this team going forward and they are young enough to be part of the rebuild.

Heatley along should and would fetch a 1st rounder without one going the other way. Over the past 6 seasons Heatley is in the top 5 for points per game player. If Colorado was interested it would need to be a 1st, roster player and a prospect. If it were me the prospect would be either Stoa, Shattenkirk or Delmas. As for the roster player I am guessing Wolski but for cap issues it could be Smyth. If hits a high cap hit player returning to ottawa the quality of the prospect would need to increase.

It's not like Smyth is a scrub, which is what you're suggesting he is.

This would mean it would take something like:

3rd overall
Ryan Smyth
Kevin Shattenkirk

to get:

Dany Heatley
Alex Auld

Uhh...

The Avs need to hold onto their assets as they rebuild, not deal them away. Heatley is a nice player but no way should the Avs deal a future franchise center (Duchene) and a future PP QB (Shattenkirk) for him especially given the state of the franchise and the 3-5 year rebuild that needs to happen.

That said, I wouldn't be shocked if PL tried something like this and then hides by hiring someone else to take the fall.

Mcphllp, would you trade schenn and your 1st for heatley, come on man hell no you wouldnt..... avs fans are right, I wouldnt trade Tavares for him either. theres a certain level of hope involved that has value too, heatley is a known quantity, and athletes have finite careers. heatley is on decline in the hopes department

Lol... way to be completely clueless about what has been going on in Colorado for like half a decade.

No, it's the fact that he correctly realizes that his team has a far great chance of building a contender and actually winning something around Duchene rather than Heatley.

Which really should be obvious to everyone.

Look at what I bolded. He wouldnt trade the 3rd overall for Heatley, come on. Classic overvaluing of picks, common on HFboards.

at this point, imo from a colorado standpoint, i would not deal two of those three assets for heatley, let alone the original idea...

the biggest thing is that if colorado had their goaltending set in stone, it would change my tune and i'd look at it.. however, colorado cannot trade cheap assets like this to go for the gusto when they have nothing at arguably the most important position..

This is ridiculous. Not trading a prospect for a young winger that is one of the top players in the league? Come on man. You hope your 3rd overall pick will be as good as Heatley.

Colorado needs to rebuild through youth. Duchene and Wolski are 2 big pieces of that.

Heatley won't put us over the top right now anyways so it's not worth giving up 2 assets with tremendous upside, especially when we're not getting a starting goalie back.

And yes i would trade Schenn and the 7th for Heatley, altough I wouldnt be happy about the $300 Leaf jersey that I bought this year would be obsolete.
