Exhibiting One of the Seven Deadly Sins

You guys win the lottery (and well deserved). And now you want the second. Try to be happy with either Tavares or Hedman. With either it's not a bad day's work.

They get Dallas' 1st and 2nd Rounders for Streit and a lesser 2nd Rounder. I guess you didn't read through the whole deal?

The net deal is Mark Streit + 2010 1st for 2nd overall '09 and a 2nd round pick.

I'm exactly sure why NYI would do this.

It's a pretty fair trade for all teams involved. Isles probably give up the most in the trade anyway. Streit is one of the top offensive d-men in the game and vastly improves Dallas' PP. Tampa probably makes out the best in this deal as the Isles pick will likely be a top 5 pick in the 2010 draft, giving them 2 shots at Hall, Fowler, Kabanov and Gormley.

Actually if you read through the deal, Tampa trades the 2nd overall pick, for the 1st overall pick and 8th overall pick. I am pretty sure they would do it.

I think the stars are unlikely to give up both top picks for streit-

Meh, its close value wise if your Tampa Bay. But the Lightning would still be better served drafting Hedman, who would step right in and do a good job. The Lightning need to win now, plus ther is no gurantee that the Isles will suck next season.

As an Islander fan I can guarentee that we will suck next year. Perhaps throw a conditional pick in as well? I guess it is a gamble but if Tampa trades Hedman for Kirill Kabanov or Cam Fowler and Nazem Kadri or Jordan Schroeder, that's a steal.

Islanders get a 2nd from Dallas for Streit? That wouldn't get it done.

I would if I was a Stars fan. There is a drop off in talent from 7-8 in this draft. You're merely swapping 2nd Rounders, and Mark Streit is awesome if you haven't seen him play much. He would be a great addition to a team already built to win now. Odds are at 8, you won't get anybody who will ever be near as good as Mark Streit.

Pass. Although we could probably knab a Cowen with the 8th(or trade down two-three spots to get him), I still wouldn't do this. The only draftee I would trade Streit in a deal for is Hedman.

We get Hedman in this deal man.

Dallas gets Streit and Boston's #2 pick from Islanders
Tampa gets our #1 pick next year (likely top 5) and Dallas' #1 pick (8th)
Isles get Hedman and 2nd Rounder from Dallas

That is incorrect sir. Please read through the proposal again and perhaps you will better understand. Thank you sir. Have a wonderful day.

You are correct. I read the proposal incorrectly.

I would do that deal.

You are incorrect sir. The Lightning would get next year's Islander #1 and Dallas #1 this year. Sorry if my post was unclear to you sir.

I think it makes lots of sense for all 3 teams but you know the people on these boards. They want their team to get twice what they give up and flame everyone else's trades.

The Islanders essentially move down 1 spot from 1st to 2nd and they trade Mark Streit for Dallas' 2nd round pick. Streit is worth more than the 38th selection in the draft. Why would the Islanders do this?

Is there something about Mark Streit I just really don't see? Why would Dallas give up a 1 and a 2 for him?

You are misunderstanding the proposal.

Tampa gets:

2010 First Rounder
2009 8TH Overall

Isles get:

2nd Overall 2009

You get first and second overall picks in this years draft.

BTW, The Tampa trade is fair, but the Dallas One needs tweeking IMO:

To Dallas:

Mark Streit
37th Pick 09 (Tor)

To NYI

8th Overall Pick
3rd round pick

This deal just seems more fair.

Guess it could happen, maybe give the higher 2nd rounder to Dallas though.

That deal is more fair for Dallas. I guess if the Isles really want Hedman they make this move. Streit is a lot to give up for the 8th pick IMO but it does work for all 3 teams in some way.

Streit would be great for the Stars PP. However, I hope Jack&Hull hold on to that pick. With the 8th OA Dallas can draft OEL or Kulikov to develop into a PPQB. Until then, as long as Richards stays healthy the PP can run at average. So I'd pass on this deal.
