What do you mean "done deal" ?

Is the guy an official member of the Montreal Canadiens now ? Can team 990 be trusted on this ?

We are now the Montreal senators.

Pierre Gauthier - Likes Softies. Nuff said !

Jacques Martin - The best coach we hired since Jacques Demers, but I hate his defensive style ( Now Akosty will have to work on his defense to be a more complete player). Not a very passionate guy. His teams did not do well in the playoffs.

Thimens ( only one I like ) & Frank Jay ( do not know him that much )

well its Tony Marinaro
he is usually reliable with his sources. If he is going 100% ahead with this and he is, then i believe it.

He says that an announcement is imminent.

I'm not very happy about this (pending) announcement. Hartley would have been my choice.

EDIT: I'm listening to Team 990 and can confirm that they're saying that it's official, announcement by the team later today.

same for me

forget about the language issue and Hartley is still the best coach available with experience IMO

In this case, why does nobody wants him?

I'd like to see Lever stay on as assistant coach. Perfect combination IMO

The fact that so many here are opposed to it, makes me think this is an even better move than I initially thought

Tony Marinaro is a nice and fun guy but he has a history of starting rumors then admitting they were jokes:

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/245449.html

That being said, Jacques Martin has 2 Jack Adams in 4 nominations and has the kind of calm mood that fits better the current Habs management then anyone. He also has little to prove and that's good.

I, for one, welcome our new coaching overlord.

At least he has NHL experience... When's the last time we could say that?

So what did we have to give to the panthers for this then?

What did we give for Julien, wasn't it a 5th rounder?

If true this is good news imo.

I feel bad for those who want an all-out offensive coach but I think once the Habs become "annoying" to play against most will find that this is the way to go.

He brings stability, experience and is perfect to teach a core of young up and coming defensemen. I think the team needed guidance and a strong idea of direction and he certainly provides both.

Personally it's great news because I've always loved defensive hockey and time has proven it works but I can see why it isn't such great news for someone who doesn't.

Marinaro just said it again: "Team 990 reporting that the Canadiens HAVE hired Jacques Martin as their new headcoach"

I personally don't enjoy watching teams trap, whether it's the Habs or another team. I didn't enjoy watching our team when coached by Jacques Lemaire. This is a personal opinion, but I find it to be anti-hockey, which is meant as a fast pace game, an exciting game...

let's worry about making the playoffs first... I'm positive that Martin will be an excellent coach for us and will help us making the playoffs

Could not have said it better myself!

He couldn't sign him in Florida. Don't hold your breath. J-Bo is going out west, or perhaps in TO.

Check this link from one year ago.

Not saying Marinaro is joking - just that it happened before and we should be careful.

Let's wait and see if it translates in W's before we complain. Think of the alternative - basically a disorganized team on the ice, you know - the way we play now!

Ottawa used to light it up back in Martin's day and were serious contenders for 3+ years.
