Jason Blake to Pittsburgh

We all saw what Blake can do during the regular season with an average set up man in Dominic Moore; now imagine what he can do with Crosby or Malkin centering him. I can only see a couple of these winger UFAS (Satan, Sykora, Guerin and Fedotenko) being re-signed, and even then, the Penguins don't really have significant depth at the wing positions.

Personally, I believe Blake is worth every penny, although the longevity of his contract (he becomes a UFA during the 11-12 offseason) paired with his age is certainly a concern.

With his recent performance during the regular season, by no means do I think that the Leafs are desperate to get rid of Blake and his contract due to their cap flexibility, but, I was wondering what the Pens would be willing to offer?

Perhaps a later round pick and a mid prospect?

because the pens are in such a great cap situation that they need a $4M second liner?

Agreed. He may be successful for the Pens but they can't take that salary on til 11-12.

We're tight against the cap, he'd have negative value to us.

Jason Blake's contract, age, medical condition and skillset give him negative trade value in the NHL. Either play him or bury him in the AHL. That's the only options other than buying him out.

Just send a 4 million contract back the other way.

The Leafs would probably have to add a 5th rounder, and nothing would come back. He was pretty good last year, but God, I wish the Leafs didn't sign him (I wanted Kariya).

Blake was one of our best players this season, i'd rather not trade him considering his value around the league.

Who? Take your pick...Fleury, Gonchar, Staal, Malkin, Crosby. Those are the only $4 million+ contracts we have.

Jordan Staal and a 1st round pick for Jason Blake.

Is that what you Leafs want?

Well, the Pens have lacked a player I flat out despise since Sydor left... I really genuinely can't stand Blake though. It's not one of those "oh if he played for my team" things. No.

Value of: Jason Blake to the inside of a volcano

I'm sure that's what they're getting at.

Would really put Pitts over the top, imagine if they had Blake instead of Staal right now.

Four months ago, I would have thought about this. Now, there is no need for a player like Blake at his cap hit.

I'd be much more interested in Ponikarovsky if I was Shero (2nd rounder?).

Blake does not have negative value, though. The guy had 63 points last year with Dominic Moore as his center. He just doesn't fit with the Pens.

As would I. Ponikarovsky for our second and Pascal Dupuis was suggested by someone else yesterday in the Jordan Staal to Toronto board and I really like that trade a lot. The Leafs pick up a second rounder and a fast defensive minded player who could step in on their PK, the Pens pick up a guy who can score goals on a line with Crosby or Malkin.

Poni holds too much value to us to give up for a 2nd rounder. He was great with Grabovski and Kulemin, and made them both much better players.
