I don't know why a guy whose been kicked off of two different teams in two different countries and has all the off-the-ice problems Emery has had is deserving a contract of over a million dollars, but that's Paul Holmgren for you.

He absolutely sucks. In case you forgot this team got eliminated in the 1st round with Biron in net. Let him go. He's awful.

I could care less about Emery. If he works out great.. if not cya. You really think Holgmgren is going into the season counting on Emery? This is a high risk move. The off season hasn't even started yet.

This team has no chance to win the cup with Biron. Get him out of here.
As noted in a different thread, Biron is one of five goaltenders in the NHL that has played in more than 50 games and had a 0.915 sv% (or better) in each the last two seasons.

Yeah, he blows. What good are statistics, anyway?

The only thing those two goalies share in common in the same first name.

Roman Cechmanek had great stats too, but no one liked him, so he blew also.

So did Brodeur, Lundqvist, Kipper, and Price...so I guess they all suck too? Like it or not, Biron was a solid goalie for us the last two seasons. Was he great? No. But he was a pretty good starter and well above average in my opinion.

Roman Cechmanek also had playoff meltdowns and had the entire team disliking him.

To the Back End and add some Toughness to the lineup.

Yes bring back Biron ! He will never come close to the cup. I could care less about Emery. I am so sick of awful goalies on this team. I've been watching this team for a long time. Biron will never lift the cup. The fact that most of you want Biron back at 4-5M a year is a joke. Add biron to this list of mediocre goalies in the orange and black.

Garth Snow
Ken Wregget
Jeff Hacket
Martin Biron
Anterio Nittamaki
Billy Bob Esche
John Vanbiesbrouk
Brian Boucher
Roman Chechmanek
Dominc Rousell

Fair enough, though most reports indicate he wasn't a good dressing room guy, either.

I don't believe that Marty is an elite goaltender but he gets the job done, shows flashes of brilliance and the guys like having him around. All things considered, he's still the best available option, in my opinion.

Lol at you comparing Biron to those goalies. Price does suck.. so what is your point. When Biron wins a vezina like Brodeur or Kiprusoff or comes close to Lundqvist then you can compare.

The options out there are rotten.

Clothespin vote for Marty on a short contract.

Those 6 goal playoff specials at the end of a series did look good, didn't they?

Bringing up the name of Cechmanek is devoid of any value...he didn't get the boot because he wasn't a good goalie here. He got the boot because he was mental and the entire team didn't like playing with him.

Here's an idea for Homer. Go after Harding. There is a kid who has played well in the NHL. He's stuck behind a great goalie. He's got nice size. Go after him instead of bums.

I take it you blame Biron for losing in the first round? Not our piss poor defense, terrible special teams, incompetent coaching, or jekyll & hyde offense?

And when he turns out to be no better than Biron -- who is, despite your ranting, a perfectly good average starting goalie in the NHL -- will he be a bum?

Harding is a complete unknown commodity, the one season where he played more than 20 games was underwhelming. Certainly is someone it makes sense to go after, but if you're expecting epic improvement over Biron from him then you're more than likely going to be disappointed.

If we sign him, I'll wait until mid season to judge on this. But as for JBo, no way we can afford him. Holmgren has to get the cap situation under control so we're not signing guys off of the street to have a full lineup. The only way we get JBo is if we shed alot of salary

But wait! His stats had nothing to do with the problems and dislike towards him!

Everyone knew he'd played well for the Flyers.

The claim with Biron is that he hasn't played that well. Thus the need to resort to stats to dissuade the belief that he's some "bum."

As said...Cechmanek is a worthless comparison. You want a good one, you go to Beezer getting blasted after we lost to Toronto.

Emery had about 30 tickets in last two years (when he played for Sens), he fought his own teammates he is more like Billy Tibbets (spelling?)

Anyway, Tim P just reported that Jay-Bo might be going to Edmonton (Like Edmonton needs more D with Gilbert, Souray, Visnovsky) maybe he ment Toronto? I would believe that one.

Final thoughts, Every for 500-800K a year and sign Jay too (I do not care how).

Forget about money and which goalie might play better next season...

We're bringing in a guy with character issues to replace one who is loved by the team. Super.

The team disliked him because it's pretty well documented that the dude is a bit of a gruff introvert and had problems getting along with people -- and not just in Philly.

They also had a problem with him showing them up on the ice.

Not scoring and losing exacerbated those two situations, but the dislike for Cechmanek on a personal level was clearly a distinct issue...otherwise it would not have plagued him at other stops in his career.
