Just hear me out here. I threw this out to my buddy, who is a neutral fan, and he said this is stupid..BUT I'd like to hear from others that it is stupid. (This is still under the assumption that Philly needs a top d-man, and Chi needs a legit 2nd line center).

To Phi:

Brian Campbell
rights to Samuel Pahlsson

to Chi:

Daniel Briere
Rights to Antero Niittymaki
and we'll say a 4th rounder this or next season.

Swaps two major salaries for another, rights of two players, and Chi gets a pick. What do you think? (void the NMC or NTC of each player...this is purely just based on value and if it'd make sense for both teams.)

no for me, Briere is a better value that Campbell in my eyes and I don't really have interest in any expensive dman who can't play D well

Campbell is getting paid $7,142,875
Briere is getting paid $6,500,000

and even if Pahlsson resigns for the same money thats $1,400,000

so all in all the Flyers add $2,042,875 in salary

But we get a top pairing defenseman, which we need sorely, and a shut down center. That addresses two major problems this offseason...basically it is trading what we have a lot of for what we don't....What's your point you're trying to make?

Campbell = Healthy
Briere= Unhealthy

Hawks pass. Briere seems to suffer alot of injuries and I think losing Campbell would hurt Hawks PP

This. Campbell is over paid but he had a big impact on the Hawks this season.

Sami Pahlsson is really not the same player he was in 2007 on the Ducks' championship-winning team. He's lost a step, and while he is still a more than capable defensive forward, I don't think he carries the value he once did. I don't think Philadelphia's defense/goaltending is going to benefit at all from acquiring Campbell, either.

Briere > Campbell.

Neither is on a good contract, but Briere is more productive for less money.

Pahlsson's a nice chip, but he doesn't make this deal.

We need a defensive d-man, not Campbell. We need to rid ourselves of salary, not add more

This. As much as campbell contract hurts if we want to win it all next year we need him imo.

Really? How about healthy Havlat (if is signed) and Huet actually playing like #1 goalie. I think Khabibulin is as good as gone.

Campbell should ware a mask when he receives his pay check. The Flyers say NO!

briere had no issues after he came back from his one injury. i really don't get this belief that he's injury prone.

right, the Flyers need another big, slow, physical, defensive d-man. Is it any wonder you can't get out of the 1st round anymore, much less past the skilled and fast Penguins. Yes, because Pens are very easy team to beat and thats thats why they are in the cup finals again this year and thats why Flyers suck.

Do you see big difference between Emery or Huet? I do not, actually I do, that huge contract.
