Seriously I think people are expecting wayyy too much to come from Martin. People will be disappointed in the end.

a little optimism is good after the hellacious (made up word?) year we just had. And what's the point of cheering for a team if you aren't willing to take the ups with the downs.

don't brace yourself.

just to add to the overall media whine fest over this...

PJ on the Team 990 kep reinforcing how no one understands this move, everyone is baffled, the canadiens dont have a team, etc etc
then he went onto say that according to a source he has, Jaques Lemaire had the job until this past weekend, and no one know what happened.

Eh
you know what people say about opinions...

Sounds like PJ is reading his own press clippings...

I don't listen to PJ's show but the times I see him rambling on, on TV have left me less than impressed with him and his hockey knowledge and "sources" he seems to bash the Habs pretty often but again I don't listen to his show so I don't know how he is on a day to day basis. That being said Lemaire said time and time again he doesen't want to coach the Canadiens and have to do 3 press conferences a day and explain his decisions, he even repeated this again when he left the Wild. So how could he have had the job? more b.s.

Reminds me of people's reaction after the Habs drafted Carey Price...the most unpopular moves, are often times the right moves.

I'd be worried if PJ Stock agreed with any move the Habs do...

PJ Stock just takes pleasure in taking the opposite stance in anything related to the Habs, he's awful at playing Devil's Advocate, he's way too transparent.

You mean he's way too much of a bruins homer ?

I don't care that he's a Bruins homer...my issue with him is that he just takes the opposite stance to anything related to the Habs just because he finds the fans, media and pressure in Montreal unbearable and over the top.

Again, he's way too transparent...furthermore, what a guy like him is doing on CBC is just beyond me, I mean seriously? PJ Stock???? Come on!

guys at the very least, martin is very good at developing young players. Look what he did with ottawa and florida as a head coach. With us having a very young team next year, this will be a major plus for the future, it might not pay dividends net year but long-term it will. We were asking ourselves why our youngsters play so well in hamilton and come to the habs and after a short spurt start regressing, well with martin thats surely not gonna happen. Plus there will be structure on defense. These 2 things at the very least make martin a good hire.

just so long as Carey/Halak don't experience the same early season struggles as kipper, I am pretty damn pleased with this.

Kiprussoff has not been great the last 2 years. Why is this good?

Well in his defense...he's the goalie coach, not the goalie. Kipper's got his responsibility in his performance as well.

Jacques Lemaire says he won't coach Montreal Canadiens

Jacques Lemaire said today it's unclear whether he'll remain in hockey as a coach. But if he does coach, he said, it won't be in Montreal, where he became a hall of fame player and has a home.

"I would not go there," he said. "You don't want to spend (with media) 20 minutes on hockey and 40 minutes on what surrounds the game. Not as a coach."

In Montreal, Lemaire said, the media want to know "what kind of shorts I'm wearing before the game."

PJ Stock is going to question that move as well.

Don't have the specifics...they probably felt Price regressed this year?? Maybe they thought he needed to hear a new voice? Maybe Gainey just wanted to start the whole coaching staff from scratch

Could be several reasons really...but like I said earlier, at the end of the day, the goalie coach can do all the teaching humanly possible, it's up to the athlete to apply it

JBO can only get better in the next 10 years, he's only 25! In fact, when our young guns are ready for the NHL he'd be a perfect veteran. He fills the gap between Markov and guys like Subban/McDonagh.

Well that's a bargain compared to Gretzky's 7M$ per year

wow, 4 years. Nice to see we hopefully will have some stability behind the bench, I'm sick of having new coaches every 2 or so years.
