Jackets-Kings

Not a sexy trade, but a practical one with no real cap implications or drawbacks.

To Kings: Jason Chimera

To Jackets: Peter Harrold, '09 4th or '10 3rd + '09 7th.

Not sure on the value here, but I like Chimera and hear the Jackets need a puck mover. Harrold isn't great, but neither is Chimera, and Harrold is very cheap. They both do what they do well enough, and Harrold also switches seemlessly to forward. Kind of guy who doesn't take a shift off. This is assuming Columbus doesn't want Preissing's salary.

I'm assuming everyone will say LA needs to add more, but I don't know what that would be, since Chimera isn't exactly worth a great prospect or anything.

What else does Columbus need/want besides a puck moving D to get Chimera playing alongside Handzus and Simmonds?

Fair deal. I'd do it from a Kings perspective.

for whatever reason--chimera and the city of columbas like each other and while talent wise it works--Chimera does a lot of stuff of the ice the gets the jackets good pr(when they do get it)

That's interesting. Harrold too gets sent out to a lot of PR things, which is odd.

Chimmer is very valuable to the Jackets, but if we can somehow get a second round pick from the Kings I wouldn't mind the trade. Filatov should be ready for NHL duty next season, so moving Chimmer would open up a spot on the third line LW for him.

Decent offer. I was thinking of a Preissing for Torres swap yesterday.

Just curious-

How come draft picks have less value one year later?

They aren't wholly known assets the way current picks are. Most also don't expect the Kings to be bottom 5 next season.

Just out of curiosity why did you bother adding the 7th pick. I don't think that's a deal breaker.

Well, Lombardi has 3 7th round picks. I figured the only reason for that is to either trade up in the later rounds with them or in a deal like this. Not a deal breaker, ofcourse, but a deal sweetener, I guess. Its so if the Jackets choose the 3rd in '10, they still get an extra player this draft.

I just can't imagine the Kings drafting 3 players in the 7th round, unless Lombardi and his scouts really know something the rest of everyone don't, which would be awesome.

Its not a great asset by any means, but it is nonetheless, an asset.

I'd probably be down for this. Jason Chimera is a fantastic person, great personality, locker room clown, fast as hell, but 1) always offsides, and 2) unable to finish. He's one of those guy's you'd love to keep around if there wasn't a limit on dressing players, but alas, there is, and Columbus has an excess of lower tier wingers.

All of this.

CBJ needs to move either Chimera or Modin, IMO.

I hereby me-too this assessment as well. I'd hate to lose him, but we can spare him more than others.

I would assume Modin's value is hardly anything right now with his being as injury prone as he is.

Sad but true. Of the two I'd prefer to keep Chimera, but... well, what you said.

Sounds good. Let's forward this to Dean's office and get the ball moving... (if only we had the capability to do that... )
