Habs-Blues

This was posted by a Blues fan in another thread and I liked it from a Habs POV enough to think it deserved it's own thread.

This is assuming Komisarek is really not coming back to Montreal and the Habs can get something rather than nothing. Habs get a second 1st Rounder to move up or take the two picks (I'd take both picks at that point).

Jackman is signed to a reasonable contract not the best but its not the worst), has verteran leadership while still fairly young. Pretty much injury free for 3ish years. McKee is stable and steady, a bit much at $4mil but will block shots all day and night. Could be extended cheaply or just let go after 1 year.

Junland isn't an oober prospect, but looks to end up behind Johnson, Petro, Cole, and Polak in terms of young defensemen hitting NHL level. Could be odd man out. Has offensive upside.

Blues get a decent player coming off a bad year to fill a void that Tkachuk/Winchester may leave. An offensively capable 3rd line winger. Komisarek replaces McKee or Jackman. Younger, similar role.

This would be assuming Brewer is really healthy and really on the projected timetable of a Sept 09 return.

We could definitely live through one year of mckee's contract. If Komi is planning on leaving then we don't really give up anything and we have more than enough wingers to fill whatever spot higgins has on our lineup and we get his contract (future that is) off the books.

Actually, we have more than enough prospects that are capable of filling in second line roles or #3-4 D so we would definitely package them to move into the top 10. We desperately need a top center prospect with first line talent and the only one I see going after the 6-7th picks is Shroeder. I know i'll get flamed by habs fans because he's small but he did come in second at the combine in benchpress and some other upper body test so i'm sure he can hold his own. And apparently he's a pretty good faceoff man. He definitely has the raw skill that our forward group desperately lacks. I could see him in the future lining up beside AK46.

Honestly, if you wanted you could remove Junland and i'd still do it. Higgins is capable of filling in any role in your offensive lineup and at any position. If he returns to his form of 07-08 he is a very serviceable player not to mention a PK specialist. You might get pissed at how many open nets he misses though.
First off, i wanted to see what other blues fans thought of this trade as well as some neutral fans. I think there would need to be a conditional pick going to stl if komi doesn't sign but it wouldn't be a first and we don't have any seconds this year or next (maybe you add a second we add a conditional first in 2010). Either way, I figure at least you'd have an extra 4 mil to work with for this year.

Secondly, I wanted to see if any other teams would be interested in making a deal of this sort. That is:

Higgins, rights to Komi, + for a first and a one year salary dump

Lastly, i wanted to find the value of two mid-first round picks, meaning how far up in the first round could we move. We have strong prospect depth at virtually every position although none really stand out so we would easily also include one or two that could fill some of the other teams needs. (excluding Pacioretty, Mcdonagh, Subban)

Look forward to seeing some of your responses.

From a habs perspective it sounds amazing, but its not a fair trade. Blues would never give all that up for what he proposed.

Thats what I thought too lol.

EDIT: i figured ading the second and the conditional first would balnce it out a bit more though. And I could see why STL would give up their first for a more established player considering their depth.

Would Higgins + rights to Komi even get us their 1st alone?

I guess the guy who originally proposed it thought mckee or whoever the other D was were acting as salary dumps and so had negative value. And yes i think the rights to komi with a conditional 1st in 2010 + higgins would be more than enough to get a mid first.

Who is Jonas Junland ?

If it's Jackman, you got yourself a deal for sure.

I wouldn't do it (as a Blues fan).

I'll admit I haven't see Junland play but he's put up decent numbers in the SEL and now the AHL. Jackman was one of the Blues' best defensemen this year, and that 1st pick is very valuable to me in a draft this deep, especially since it's 17th so there are going to be plenty of good picks at that point (and probably a surprise player who was ranked higher and slipped).

I'm not a big fan of Higgins, I do like Komisarek but he's a UFA and UFA rights aren't worth much to me, especially since that 1st is set in stone, and there are no conditional picks involved. Honestly, the Blues have too many D right now with Pietrangelo most likely making the team next year (too young to play AHL) and they could just make a bid on Komisarek in free agency if they want him.

Solid D + decent prospect + 1st (17th)
FOR
rights to RFA + rights to UFA + 3rd

It's not for me. Blues have good prospect depth and a pretty full roster, doesn't mean I want them to make this trade. I'd rather take a high risk, high reward guy with the 17th pick (IMO they have enough prospect depth to risk it) and see how Junland progresses. I wouldn't be against trading Jackman or Junland, or both, but not for that package.

You know, one Habs guy I like is Lapierre, how about we switch out Komi's rights for him?
