Coaching Tipped The Scales For Cal Petersen In Choosing The LA Kings

On the first day of the Los Angeles Kings 2017 Rookie Camp, all the media present gravitated to goaltending prospect Cal Peterson, who was signed out of the University of Notre Dame as an unrestricted free agent.

But the Kings weren't his only suitors.

How did they win the competition for his services? What kind of netminder is he? What does he still need to work on? Where will he play this season and what will his role be?

All that and a bit more is reported here...

Loved this one Gann...seems like a really well spoken kid and I love the mutual excitement between Dusty and Cal. Also cool to hear what kind of influence the goalie coaches have, they're directly tied to decisions.

Also kind of crazy looking back at the goalies we've churned out over the last 5 years, that track record has to be tops in the NHL in that time.

Among the many contributions from Lombardi: an appealing infrastructure. Players who care about development can look at the successes the Kings program provided.

And it's not just Petersen. But that's for another story... :-)
