Pavelec to Calgary

calgary fans want a backup for yom kippur and pavelec wants a shot in the nhl

playing behind a goalie like kiprusoff gives pavelec a chance to gain experience without the pressure of being thrust into the starting job and patiently wait for his chance either when kiprusoff retires or when he proves he has the stuff of a number one goaltender

what, if anything, would calgary be willing to give for him

one of valabik, salmela, lewis, exelby, kulda, postma and any of atlanta's 2nd round picks could be added to a deal

I think Pavelec feels he deserves a strating role. Given Lehtonen's health, likely he'll be more likely to get that job in Atlanta. He'll almost certainly play more games in Atlanta behind Lehtonen than he will in Calgary.

This trade would be pointless. Sure Pavelec is a good goalie but there are plenty of veterans out there that could do just as good a job playing 20 games.

Anyways it would probably take Mikael Backlund or Dustin Boyd(calgarys top prospects for Atlantas) coming back the other way.

Which is exactly why Calgary would never do this. Also, the Flames just signed McElhinney to a new contract to back-up Kipper again this year. He will likely get more playing time, and the Flames also have a top goalie prospect in Irving.

I know, everything you just said is true. Which is why this proposal is pointless.

They signed McElhinney, so they might have a backup goalie after all
