StL and Nash

StL is home to Anaheim and Chicago in their next two games and they'll have plenty of rest for both contests.

The Preds are nicely rested up for a road game vs the Rag$ and then they host C-bus a couple of days later.

This was a costly point that we just gave up, we no longer control our own destiny. Even if we win out, including a regulation win over StL, we still need help from other teams to make it in and it's not coming any time soon. Anaheim has already done as much for us as we've done for ourselves, if they pull off yet another win we should all swamp that team with thank-you cards. Seriously.

We could be on the outside looking in again tomorrow night.

If Dallas turned out to be the team that got us eliminated it would be way too hard to take. On most teams there's at least one guy I don't despise, on Dallas I grudgingly respect Mike Modano just a fraction more than I respect a ripe zit and that's it. I hate everyone else unconditionally, even the trainers and the Zamboni driver.

I feel so much better now.:p

Reality check We have played them three times and taken four points. We should have had six of six. But really what more could you ask for. So we gave up 4 points... Dallas is out of our reach.

This team needs to move on.

I believe in the Oilers, the team we have now is exceptional. I just don't believe in the teams that are playing against Nash and StL. We need luck now, and I don't like relying on luck.

Last time Nashville played the Rags Jussi got the third star.

Anahiem has scored 12 goals in their last two games. They're former Stanley Cup finalists. Go Ducks Go.

You know Edmonton is gonna get Dallas in the playoffs if both make it. It's just one of those unspoken rules of the universe.

You know, put the seat back down if there's a lady in the household, the Bills never winning the superbowl, and Dallas hooking up with Edmonton in the playoffs.

It's gonna be different when (note how i don't use "IF") they meet up... no Hatcher, no Sydor, no Marchant, no Salo...

There will be some guys left that's been "Around teh block" though. Smyth, Modano, Moreau, Matvichuk...

Nashville - 1 win in their last 9 games

STL - 5 wins in their last 16, 1 win in their last 4

LA - 1 win in their last 7

Thing is, it doesn't matter what the Ducks and Hawks have done all year. What matters is what they do in the next week. One poster made a great point: Chicago would love to knock St-Louis out of the playoffs. NASH has been struggling. To say we need luck is a moot point. So does NAsh LA and St-Louis.

I think Edm and St-loo will get in.

Man, that really shows how hard it is to come back from behind in this league. We have played incredibly, but if any of those other teams had played even .500 we would have no chance.

It's actually not as bad as some of you think...

Even if the Oilers tank it and only get 4 points in their remaining 5 games, St. Louis and Nashville still have to win 3 games each (or 2 wins and 2 ties.... but you get the point).

Alas, the problem is that St.L will have 7 cracks at winning those 3 games, and Nashville will get 6 cracks at it (and actually they only need to have 2 wins and a tie).

I wish there was a way for neither team to get a point in their h2h. Maybe everyone will get suspended before the game begins and they will have to forfeit.

Chicago hasn't been playing too bad lately, neither has Anaheim. It's the Columbus games I'm willing to concede to StL.

very true, no doubt about it.

However, the chain of events required for EDM to miss if they win all 5 games is pretty unlikely.

If EDM goes 5-0, ending with 93 pts, the best record NSH and STL can put up in 2 scenarios are:

(1) NSH winning HTH over STL:

NSH 6-0 (if they win the HTH vs. STL)to end up with 94 points

STL 5-0-0-2 - win all their games but lose to both EDM and NSH in OT: end up with 93 pts and win the tiebreaker

(2) STL winning HTH over NSH:

NSH 5-0-0-1 to finish at 93 points and win tiebreaker with EDM

STL 6-0-0-1 to finish at 94 points.

One thing is for sure, too bad they didn't win last night

What worries me more than the sked

is plain and simple momentum and breaks.

The Oilers have been catching a few lately but that looked to turn last night as the first two Stars goals were those of the "breaky" kind.

I'm just worried that things have been going so good for the Oil lately, what's gonna happen if it turns? Can the Oilers fight through it?

And how many more 3rd period leads can they blow and still manage to escape with at least an 8th spot?

That's what's really eating at me lately

My money is on the Blues and Nashville to make it to the dance. Boy are we going to be irked when Nashville takes out Detroit in the first round.

Well we only require 1 team to implode now that we have put some distance between us and LA - and neither Nashville or the Blues are playing particularly well. That's a big change from a couple of weeks ago when we needed to pass 4 teams.

Last night does not bug me at all - really - you can't win every damn time guys and we have points in how many consecutive games now? That said - the boys REALLY have to win their 2 remaining home games and go 1-1-1 on the road (win in St. Louis) to give them 90 points on the season.

Only if the Rangers would play some hockey. I bet they'd rather loose against Nashvile. They're on a race of their own with Phoenix to lock the fifth place from the bottom, in order to qualify for the 1st round lottery....Damn damn damn....
