Niittymaki available?

I was just watching Satellite Hotstove on CBC and they talked about Emery signing soon. They also mentioned that the Flyers were also looking at retaining Biron as well. Is this a realistic option? And if so, what would it take for the Avs to acquire Nittymaki?

Nitty is a FA to be so it really wouldnt take much. Probably just a draft pick.

Nitty won't be a starter in the NHL any longer. It has been suggested by management that his hips have not fully recovered from previous injuries.

He's a more than capable back-up, though. If anyone is looking to acquire Niittymaki before July 1st, he'll be cheap.

Well if he's UFA the Avs wouldnt waste the pick haha and just bid on July 1st. So that means Biron and Nitty are FA's?

What is the cap situation like, what are the chances they do have Emery and Biron next year?

If Biron will agree to a short contract (2-3 years) for $5M or less, and the 1-year ~ $1M contract for Emery is signed, then the Flyers definitely could have both guys on the roster next season.

If they sign Emery and are confident he'll be able to carry the load as the number one guy, the Flyers will likely use that $5M Biron money to improve the defense, though.

I can't fathom how the Flyers would resign Biron for anything more than 4 mil. Anything more would really handcuff them with filling out the team. They simply can't afford to give him the full 5 he's asking for.

Biron wants 4 years, $20 million. He's not coming back.

What Biron wants and what Biron gets are 2 very different things.

I've heard that Niity's hip can't pass a strenuous physical.

That really sucks for him. He'll catch on somewhere else, but he's got maybe, 5 years left. Shame, he could have been great if he'd not been hurt and had some more time to develop into a true #1.

So i guess many teams wont be too interested. And now that you guys mention Birons wants of 5mil per season...the Avs likely wont be interested in that either....

Biron asking for Tim Thomas money is well, ridiculous.

Disagree. He got a fair contract, considering he signed it mid-season. He is no spring chicken, I imagine he wanted to get his name on a contract quickly for one good pay day before he retired.

Look at what the other top tier goalies make and tell me $5M isn't undervaluing Thomas. It's not like he already has a ton of miles on him either.
