Is Higgins Available?

What sort of Compensation would MTL need for Calgary to get Higgins from them? He seems to have dropped off in performance, I am just wondering where he fits in your line up next year, as well as how much it will cost to re - sign him as he is an RFA.

No, Higgins is not "available." If you want him, you'll pay the full price. We're not selling low on our players.

Last time I checked he didn't have a girlfriend, but I don't think he's interested in dudes

I'm pretty sure everyone aside from Price and Markov are available.

Suited as a solid 3rd line LW but may also be a 2nd line LW to complement and round off the capabilities of more offensively gifted teammates.

No more than 2.5M for 2 years.

As for value, I don't think he can be traded straight up. Would need to be in some sort of a packaged deal.

In any case, if it's to get us Cammaleri, I'm all ears...

Only way i'd trade Higgins to Calgary is if we are packaging him and getting Jokinen.

What would be "the right price?" Realistically!

I honestly have never spent much time on the Canadians board, hopefully you don't over-rate your players like the Oilers board does. I do realize he has value due to the fact he is a big body that can score and has some leadership potential. But he more than likely will never be more than a second liner at best.

Anyway, just thought he would fit the flames team and needs well, so I thought I would ask.

I would want Langkow straight up for Higgins. I'm not really as interested in Jokinen as other Habs fans. If the Habs got Langkow, I could see the Habs trading Plekanec for a defenseman. This would help the Habs in the end because Langkow is better than Pleks and we could use a D much more than another winger. If any of Backlund, Regehr or Phaneuf were available for a package, we'd want them, but I don't expect any interest on the Flames' part to trade those three.

He is no where near close in value to Phaneuf or Jokinen. You do realize he got 23 points last year and has a average of 38 points over the course of his NHL career.

That's why people said in a package, not straight up for either player.

You do realize he was injured for the most of last year and that he's more known for his 2-way play (which he was finally used for with Gainey) than his point totals?

No way CGY trades Lankow straight up for Higgins. Lankow is a Solid second line center who is almost always good for over 60 points. Like I said before Higgins is a very good third liner or a poor second liner.

They said a package. In any case, if you don't want him that bad, that's fine with us. Just don't expect us to trade him for any of your garbage. If you feel like you're winning the trade, it's not going to happen because, despite everything, the Habs don't have an actual reason to trade Higgins at all right now. What happens if we keep him and he gets 60 points? Obviously, he becomes a more proven scorer. His points average rises. The Habs aren't going to trade him when his value is low so that any team can get a good deal. In other words, it's just not a good time to trade Higgins for the Habs.

Right now, he's a guy who struggled the year after potting 27 goals. This is him at a low value. Why trade him when he has more upside in him and can boost his value later? Why the hell do the Flames want "a good third liner" so much? Probably because he can get better than that.

If you had $1 for every Higgins trade rumour the last three years you'd be able to put in a bid to buy the Montreal Canadiens.

Maybe he is worth more than I think. I haven't scene him play much , but thought he would fit the Flames mould. He seems defensively responsible and has some offensive upside. I was thinking more that Chipcura would fill his role next year at a cheaper rate allowing the Habs to be more active on the FA market.

This is why I thought he was not as valued as he "apparently" is!

Well, Chipchura isn't really the same kind of player.

That and honestly, there isn't a lot on Calgary that interests me.

Centre, lacks skating abilities, very good vision overall.

From what I've seen, he's clearly not as agressive as Higgins, and even if it kinda became a running joke here, he doesn't have the scoring skills.
