Dream on. Tampa could trade Vinny for an outstanding young goalie and keep their first round pick.

We get an equally bad contract in Luongo + give up our 2nd overall.

I like dreams, but mine are realistic.

so tampa trades vinny and a potential franchise player for a year of luongo and a late first? they already traded richards for their starting goalie last year

Pretty sure VAN would fail even more without Luongo.

I just tried it. It does.

Then again on my other dynasty, I got Vinny for Kesler and a 1st.

YOu have one of the best young goalies coming up in Scneider who has his team in the calder finals..plus you get possibly Tavares or hedman...Plus Hodgson coming up...adding lecavlier would make this team good for a while..

On the other side Tampa made all these retarded signings..this is a chance to go out and actually make a good deal to strengthen your goaltending for years to come..

Smith is no Luongo obviously but Vancouver's first likely won't be a Lecavalier.

We have a good #1 and a decent backup in Ramo. Goaltending was not our problem last year. To give up Lecavalier and Hedman does not help us.

We already did that at last years deadline.

Neither team would do this, although I think Vancouver would be more likely to than the Lightning. Loluonchoke has already said he wants to win, although this year it's his fault they didn't.

TB would do that trade, Van wouldn't. Having Stamkos and Kesler as their 1 and 2 centers is pretty nice to build off of plus 2 1st in this draft and dump Vinnys contract.

This proposal fails for many reasons.

First of all, how does one year of Roberto Luongo help the TBL? It doesn't. If they move Lecalv it will be for peices that help in the rebuild, and nothing else.

Secondly, Vancouver also says no because Lecalv puts them in a heavy cap squeeze when what they really need is a #1 defenseman like Bouwmeester or Neidermayer who can really skate well. Oh, and they lose a top goalie in the league.

All in all, makes sense for neither side.

Because a year from now it could turn in to Vinny and Tavares/Hedman for only one guranteed year of Luongo and whoever the Lightning would select with the Canucks pick. That's an awful deal from the Lightning's POV. Canucks would have to give up a lot more. Probably drop Luongo and add pieces that will be cheap and with the team for a while like Hodgson if they're going to get the 2nd overall and Vinny.

1 year to unrestricted free agency is not a good contract if you're trading away hedman/tavares/Duchene and a 50 goal scorer locked up for 10 years to get him.

If luongo agrees to a 10 year extension at 5million per year, I could see Tampa doing this then moving Smith but that won't happen.

Don't you know, 1 year of Luongo is worth every teams 5 best players/prospects. They are doing TBL a favor by only asking for VL and then 2nd overall. Vanc would NEVER give TBL a late 1st in addition to Luongo, it's just some poster on HF being rediculously over generous.

Um.

1 year of Luongo is worth your team's best prospect, your team's best center, best defenseman, and your rival team's best prospect.

Get your facts straight, old fart. God, the audacity here is astounding.

Umm, I think Vanc does this and runs away laughing. The can take an flip VL to another team if they don't want him. Hell they could probably reduce the asking price from LAK and get JJ, the 5th pick in 09 and a 2nd in 2010 for VL from the Kings. If I'm Vanc I do this and I'm loving life. I hand Schneider the starting job and let him take his licks while the team reloads over the next 2 years. Resign the Sedins. Draft Hedman with the 2nd overall and MPS/Kane/Schenn with the 5th overall picks.

I'd be happy with Schneider in goal, Elder, JJ and Hedman as my top 3 and Kane/Schenn as my #1 center and Hodgson as my #2 center for the next 10 years. That's one hell of a core to build around.

If I could turn 1 year of Luongo and my late 1st this year into Hedman, Kane/Schenn and JJ I'd be one happy fan if I were a nucks fan.

Edit: Crap, I forgot all bout Kesler. Man, how sweet would it be to have centers of Kesler, Kane and Hodgson to gowith Edler, Hedman and JJ on th blue line and Schneider in net. Damn that's pretty sweet looking if you ask me.
