Possible Goalie Coach

With Pierre Groulx not having his contract renewed by the Panthers, there is a possibility that he might end up in Montreal where he and JM have a good relationship.

Just passing it on...

I don<t know the guy, but according to DeBoer"s comments, he had good relationship with Martin. So 1+1=2. He"s our next goalie coach !

DeBoer also said that they will hire a part-time consultant to coach the goalies... Like in Detroit !

I can't say if he's really good or not, but Vokoun and Anderson looked good because our dumbass assistant coach Mike Kitchen employs a stupid system whereby he WANTS to allow shots.

He always did these goalie scouting reports on FSN Florida and he didn't really seem like he knew what he was talking about, but that could be that he's camera shy.

He used to be our video coach and was promoted to goalie coach which is pretty odd. He would also throw on the pads and play goalie for practice if one of the goalies wasn't able to.

I'm sure he'd do better than your previous coach and coach Price to his strengths instead of trying to change him.

With Allaire most likely to be available, and Marcoux who is officialy available, I don't see any reason to hire someone else than those two guys.

I don't think he has the experience to be good with our goaltenders. If he's hire, it's only because he knows Jacques Martin...

Allaire is the way to go. Good goalie coaches help improve their goaltender, all while playing to their strengths. I've read here that people think he will come in and make price a butterfly goalie etc ... He won't. He will help Price on whatever he needs help with. He knows how to make goalies a winner on and off the ice.

I don't often post but feel the need to do so on this topic. I was afraid of this when I first heard of Martin's hiring. I know Pierre from high school. Knew him still when he started working for the Senators. At that time he was working alongside Roger Nielson. He has been following Martin ever since. They seem to have a protogé-mentor relationship. Unfortunately, I don't think that it's a good thing for Montreal. Pierre is a nice enough guy but I don't think it would be a good idea for Montreal to hire him as their next goalie coach. In fact, I think it would be a huge mistake. As one previous poster mentions, it's odd that someone goes from video coach to goalie coach. He has no credentials and I doubt he had any positive impact on the play of Vokoun or Anderson. Vokoun was good even before he arrived in Florida. As for Anderson, if the Miami Herald article and not the RDS one is correct, he was also posting good numbers as the backup before Pierre became the goalie coach. Regardless, I believe that Price and Halak need someone with more experience. To bring in someone who has lesser credentials than Melanson would be a mistake. It's not like Montreal has had much success when hiring people with very little to no experience. To Pierre I would say no thanks. Unfortunately, I have a sinking feeling that Martin will hire him. Sad.

I use to play against him in midget hockey. He was a good goalie and I lost in the final against him 2-1 (I was goalie for the other team).

He was a good goalie, I can't say regarding his coaching. I don't know if he took courses at college or university. The only thing I know is that his family knew Jacques Martin and thats how he got to become video coach for the Sens. Which led to be video coach for the Panthers and eventually goalie coach.

Between Allaire and him, I take Allaire in a heart beat.

Thanks for the scoop. I'd still rather have Eli Wilson personally, if he's available. We can't lose focus that we're getting a goalie coach for Price and few know him more than Wilson...

I've heard of Allaire, but I have no idea where he ranks in the world of goalie coaches.

How good is he at his job?

Burke and Allaire have been working for a few years together. It makes sense.

The balance of power has shifted in the East.

This is truly the summer of the goaltending coach.

His pre-existing relationship with Burke and the Leafs' goalie coaching vacancy made this one an all-but-foregone conclusion.

He's the man behind Patrick Roy.

Great teacher, he works with goalie instead of trying to imput his style on the goalie like Relancon was doing

Thats one of gaineys problems, by the time he figures whats going on it's too late. We need someone proactive who goes out and gets things done, and makes things happen. Gainey is obviously not the guy.

Wonderful. Now Allaire can go work an uphill battle with Toskala and certified bust Justin Pogge.

You'd think having two potential #1 goalies under the age of 25 would be a selling point... but obviously it isn't.

On to plan B, as usual.
