Dany Heatley asks for trade from Senators (per EJ Hradek on NHL Live)
And the Sens decide to accommodate Heatly, this doesn't have to be a bad thing.
The Sens are re-shaping their team and a big trade chip like that could certainly afford them some pretty sweet purchasing power. Besides, his exit would free up cap space and just allow them a lot more flexiblity with their young club.
I think Marleau for Heatley would be a decent trade, but the Senators have some term locked up in some centers. Fishers, Spezza, Kelly. And they're trying to re-sign Comrie. I don't know if this gets done just because Heatley wants it to.
I didn't say they had to trade him, I'm just saying they won't get much for him, or at least what people would think they could get for him. They'll still get a solid package, a first, a good, solid prospect and a solid player ready to go back to Ottawa and play on the team immediately. Depending on how late the first is, they could get a little more.
No, they'll get a lot. He's 28, signed to a long-term contract, and he's a proven 40 (and 50) goal scorer. Even though he's rumoured to have demanded a trade, teams will be chomping at the bit to get a talented LW like Heatley.
Hossa was a soon to be UFA. Heatley is signed for FIVE more years.
I think 5 years at $7.5M is actually a bad contract in todays financial climate. He's a really good player but that contract isn't an amazing value by any stretch.

It didn't sound like a rumor, EJ Hradek reported it as something that has happened, not something he heard.
NHLPA says Heatley makes $10 mil, is that true? Yikes. Who in the west could afford to take that on that has the assets to make that deal work? I thought he was closer to $8.

He had 40 goals on a BAD season! How many players in the league have 40 goals on a bad season?
