I believe even if he does modestly good he wont be able to demand more then 3-4 mill. He will still have a stigma with him and one year will not make him proven.

P.S was nice to see Carter jump in on the photo I think he will help Emery's transition.

I don't believe so. Maxime Ouellet wore 29 in juniors and probably would have donned 29 if he had developed into the goaltender the Flyers expected him to be.

Do I need to do a Jeff Carter allegory so early in the season?

Good stuff as usual Pelts.

I just checked the History site and this looks to be a first (based on regular season/playoffs performers). Glen Cochrane, Roman Vopat, Randy Jones, Ryan McGill and others wore 29.

Others who wore 29...
  • Glen Cochrane
  • Terry Crisp
  • Barry Dean
  • Karl Dykhuis
  • Todd Fedoruk
  • Nick Fotiu
  • Larry Goodenough
  • Randy Jones
  • Ryan McGill
  • Jack McIlhargey
  • Gino Odjick
  • Joel Otto
  • Alexandre Picard
  • Yves Racine
  • Daryl Stanley
  • Roman Vopat

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we flipped something Montreal's way to bring him back. I don't think Holmgren wanted to lose him in the first place.

good article

http://csnphilly.com/pages/landing?E...167&feedID=717

Quote:
Playing in Russia was very different than North America. Emery would have to show up at 5 p.m. – more than 24 hours before his game – at a gymnasium with other team members where they would bunk-in overnight.

“Forget what these guys were earning, they slept on cots in a gym before the game,” Barry said.

Smith added that the entire league operated this way.

“It’s very tough,” he said. “They have these things called basas, which is where you stay overnight before games. It’s very good hockey, but it’s Spartan conditions. Good skills, good games, good competition, but everything around the game itself, it’s not easy to live there.”

And when the season ends, it doesn’t really end.

KHL contracts require the players to practice/play through April. If your team is eliminated, you are still required to practice – or you don’t get paid.

Although that wouldn't be controversial enough. Instead maybe he'll go anti-Rocky and put Apollo Creed or Clubber Lang instead.
Bernard Hopkins would be sweet. Get the black "Executioner" robe on there.

Daily News poll and article...

"I really aprpeciate the opportunity being given to me," Emery said. "I lost that once before and have that in the back of mind . . . I'm not saying I'm not going to be a fiery guy. I love playing hockey . . . I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize that opportunity and the people giving it to me."

Both Flyers general manager Ray Holmgren and Comcast-Spectacor CEO Peter Luukko said they had spent a lot of time with Emery and his support team, and talking to many people for their opinions.

"Ray's a pro and we're a professional organizational," Luukko said. "Where there is perceived risk, in business, a lot of times there is a great opportunity for the organization and for Ray.

"We spent a lot of time with Ray; Ed Snider, myself, our guys have followed him. He has had a great career. He had a bump in the road, that bump in the road is a great opportunity for the Flyers and for Ray."

Hopkins would be a nice choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes old school with Frazier and maybe have a picture of the Blue Horizon on there as well.

Funny thing in my mind though is that Metropolit was questioned about Emery by CSN last week and spoke in a 'we' manner about him... It was as if Metro was a Flyer still. Could it be that Metro was waived with the understanding that he was going to be signed again as the 4th center/swing man? -- or is he still under contract for another season? I can't recall.

I could see him back at his low Cap hit and his talents and Flyers needs and Cap concerns... Could he be an option if a FO specialist at at low Cap hit is not found?

As for Razor; I'm not sure if he had a smirk, embarrassed smile, nervous smile or cat who swallowed the canary smile on his face... He was very contrite and humble as he admitted that he was at fault in his lazy work habits. He appeared to recognized that he made a mistake and he will more than likely not get another chance if he blows this one in a similar manner... I was glad that he took the frank questions in a humble manner and not in a confrontational one. Has the tiger changed his stripes, or is it merely the proper thing to say at the current time? We'll see... but I get a good feeling from this press conference.

All that said; Homer made a point in saying that he was but one of the goalies and Marty and Nitty are not yet out of the picture... he did not in any way hand over the keys to the kingdom to Ray, only the opportunity to seize them and run with it.

I think that the PC was a good thing to rest some of our concerns... More shoes to drop, stay tuned.

Randy Jones for Glen Metropolit would make me a happy man.
