Ottawa-San Jose (Yes, Heatley)

To Ottawa: Milan Michalek (4.33M), Christian Ehrhoff (3.1M), and 2009 2nd round pick

To San Jose: Dany Heatley (7.5M)

I could see this as being a deal that both teams consider. San Jose gets their elite sniper for Joe Thornton, but also don't add so much salary where it handcuffs them, as the contracts essentially cancel each other out money-wise. Ottawa gets two young, established NHL players who can step in and help right now, and have contracts going into next season and beyond.

Thoughts?

Seems pretty reasonable, a little too reasonable.

I dont see why Ottawa would want that, especially considering Semenov is a UFA.

I am not a big fan of Michalek would much rather see a package involving Ryan Clowe, I am a very big fan of Ehrhoff however.

It may be reasonable but it's not practical from the Sharks perspective because of how much money is already committed to few players. I think the ratio of most money to least amount of players or something like that is where they currently stand. This proposal only makes it worse.

The likelihood of the Sharks being the team to acquire him is slim to none because Ottawa would have to take on a decent amount of salary in order for the Sharks to consider it given their cap situation.

You're a tough negotiator my friend, how about this: Marleau, Semenov and the Sharks erase any record of Gerber playing for the Sens.

I think anytime you have the chance to acquire a player of Semenov's calibre you have to pull the trigger.

I'm gonna drop a kernel of truth on you:

He played in the 2004 Young Stars game.

While that's certainly true, they could end up losing a massive contract within a year in Marleau. Just a proposal though.

Wow, a pretty even deal. As good as a return as we could hope for, I think... I'd most likely do this.

Not a huge fan of this deal. I'd much rather a guy like Pavelski than Michalek. And I'm a huge Vlasic fan aswell. I just don't see a possible trade scenario with San Jose though.

I'd much prefer Michalek to Pavelski. Michalek would help ease the loss of Heatley on the wing, and he's already locked up for several years. Pavelski will need a new deal in a years time, and seeing as how we're committed to Mike Fisher, I don't know if there's room for a center right now.

And I doubt Vlasic would be on the move.

Ehrhoff is dynamic and versatile. Vlasic is a rock solid defensemen with decent offensive upside.

Just depends what you are looking for really. From what I know of the Sens, I'd think you'd want Ehrhoff.

It's a solid trade offer, its pretty much exactly what i proposed on the Sharks board earlier today.

Great offer. I want a big boy with heart to play the wing with Spezza and Alfredsson (or with Fisher and Alfredsson depending). Michalek and Ehrhoff would make excellent additions to the Sens.

Heatley with Thornton would be silly.

Let's do this.

Wonderful deal for both sides, great job TMV

I personally think we are contenders after making this trade

Foligno - Spezza - Alfredsson
Michalek - Regin - Comrie
Kelly - Fisher - Shannon
Ruutu - Bass - Winchester

Phillips - Volchenkov
Erhoff - Kuba
Lee - Campoli

Leclaire
Elliott

If only your last name was Murray

Personally I'd do the deal for Heatley because Nabby and Marleau come off next year. Obviously we'd need a replacement for Nabby, but I think with what money is left, we'd be able to get it.

Actually, pretty sure everyone would want Vlasic over Ehrhoff. But nice try

This... makes sense.

TMV, what would you do about Picard and Smith? Do you think this would make Phillips expendable, and is Volchenkov all but gone in 2010 if this happens?

I'll probably be the only Sharks fan who says I would rather keep Michalek and Ehrhoff than trade them for Heatley. Trading Ehrhoff opens a huge hole on our back-end that would cost us far more to fill than the Sharks could afford.

If we could get Heatley for Marleau and Clowe, that would be fine. But I doubt Ottawa goes for that deal.
