In a game last night between Kelowna Rockets and Portland Winthawks, Shea Weber (Nashville's 2nd rd pick 2003) was going for a puck behind the net and Robin Big Snake pushed or grabbed him causiong Shea to hit the side of his head into the end boards.
Shea immidately went into convulsions, trainer and Docter after five minutes got him stablized. After twenty minutes they finally got Weber off the ice and into the ambulance to hospital.
Update this morning, he is stilll very droggy, test are being done to see the severity of the concussion. Will up date you guys when word comes down.
Thanks Upchuck19...was it a cheap shot or clean shoulder into the boards by Robin Big Snake?
Big Snake got 5 min and a game, but I don't think he meant to hurt Shea. Weber was going for the puck, Big Snake grabbed him to make Shea go off balanced, and slammed the side of his head against the boards.
It was really scary, the rest of the players were all paired up and no one was paying attention to Weber. Then the crowd noticed Shea was laying on his left side and his right arm looked like he was punching the board. But he was in a convultion or seizer, the trainer went out after he noticed and Shea's legs were shaking for about 5 minutes. It took them 20 minutes to get him in a ambulance.
Definatly was a scary sight. From where I sit at the games I can see perfectly behind the net where the hit was and Shea definatly went into the boards the wrong way. I taped the game so I watched it agian when I got home and he was hit kind of while turning about 6 feet from the boards and just went crashing down into the boards. Hard to say if it was clean or dirty as Shea was off balance. At least he is ok and hope he has a speedy recovery.
Update for you guys, After being very droggy yesterday morning, they released him to go home with his mother. He stoppped by the arena to pick up some stuff and had lunch with his team mates before they went out of town on a one day road trip.
I seen Shea on TV and he had a smile on his face and looked pretty good. They didn't interview him, but on that TV clip you could see him bend over and scratch his leg. He didn't stumble, so his balance is good.
Shea's hometown is two hours north of Kelowna, so hopefully he gets some rest and gets back ASAP. Update you again when I heard something.
Update for you guys, right now the concussion isn't as bad as first thought. But with concussions you never know! Right now Shea is home in Sicamous B.C. and has medium headaches. So wait and see what next Wednesday brings and how the headaches are then. Until then I have a link to one of the local papers talking about Shea.
Shea Weber said in the local paper today "that he feels fine, barring the odd headache"" he's coming along fine, it will be one week tonite since the hit. He isn't cleared for light duty work out yet, but is still improving.
