P-P-Power Rankings (Yahoo)

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

Yahoo just released a pre-season NHL power ranking chart.

Apparently Vancouver is fourth. McKeon believes in us, start the hype!

I got excited until I saw that he had Chicago in second. "Look at the Marian Hossa(notes) situation this way: He’s played as far into the postseason as a player can in consecutive years, and he’s no spring chicken. So is it really so bad that he’s not going to be available to Chicago until midseason? The forced rest might rejuvenate him."

LOL...

they didn't really take it that seriously when they did it.

There's no way Vancouver is that good. I'd put us closer to 15/16 at the moment.

Why bother doing power rankings in August? It's pointless.

I think we should have traded for Scott Gomez then we'd be top 4

13. Carolina Hurricanes – Here’s something random: Can we please change the team logo and maybe spiff up that uniform? How about a throwback to the look of the Whalers? New colors. Anything but black. Thank you.

Van got 100 pts last year with Luongo out for 24 gms plus another 12 to get back to form.......The backups stepped up but where would they have finished point wise last year.......minus 1/2 season of Sundin and Ohlund and a few fillers.Maybe also a better backup last year.
In return they have a healthy Luo,Samuelsson for a full year,Hodgson and possibly another young gun making the team and making a difference........defence weaker without Ohlund but Edler will be another year older. Two strong lines for a full season...top team 5 on 5,top team FO's-might drop some as no Sundin but Kesler who is no slouch will take more of those. Will Sammy and Hodgson make our pp better??? if so watch out.

Never count out Det and though they have lost key parts they have exp young guys to fill the spots.....Sj is a wildcard as they wont be the same team as last year roster wise....They have only 17 signed and still T Mitchell to resign....even if at bargin prices for remaining forwards they will be over 60 mil and will need to shed 4 + mil-wild card

FWIW, my preseason pick to win it all is Montreal. Don't see eye to eye with the Yahoo staff on why Van should be as high as 4, but I don't think anyone's taking that preseason power poll very seriously anyways. Like people have been pointing out, if you read their captions for each team, they sound like mental midgets, not much insight to the actual team makeup at all.

I agree, but it's hard to take that angle when Chicago handles us so easily and has fewer points anyways.

What's dumb is that Detroit is so low. Have they learned nothing?

The Predators being 29th really seals the deal on how pointless this list is.

EDIT: Not to mention that Edmonton is ahead of three playoff teams.

were roughly a top 10 team in the league. this list is retarded and has no reflection on how well play.

i can see edmonton taking 6-8. quinn can't be worse than renney, and gagner was really playing well at the end of last season

This sucks.

If there's anything we've learned in the last 4 years, if the "experts" think the Canucks are favorites to win the division, they'll miss the playoffs.

On the other hand, if the "experts" think they'll miss the playoffs, they'll win the division.

God it sucks to be a Canucks fan.
