Heatley to Calgary, obviously

The guy grew up there...perfect fit for the Flames. Would look great with Iginla.

So,

To Ottawa: Phaneuf

To Calgary: Heatley

Flame on.

Won't work for both teams because:

Ottawa wants a Top 6 forward, Top Pairing Defenceman, and a Solid Prospect/Draft Picks. Phaneuf solves one problem but the others.

Calgary has to eat up an extra Mill of cap space which we all know they don't even have.

Two years ago...maybe. But Phaneuf no longer equals Heatley.

Wants and gets are two different things to be certain, getting that much will be next to impossible.

Nope, and I agree. But they don't want 1 for 1 (unless it meant like Malkin or Crosby or Ovechkin). They are in rebuild mode. They would want young prospects/picks over that.

So Murray wouldn't do a one for one swap unless a Crosby or Malkin is the player heading to Ottawa........I really hope Murray is smarter than that

Calgary doesn't need goalscoring... they need help on the defensive end. Heatley's a great sniper but he doesn't address any needs for this team right now. I don't think Phaneuf really fits into Ottawa's plans right now either.

Besides, Sutter isn't going to deal Phaneuf.

Heatley and Phillips
For
Phaneuf and Jokinen

Just a thought I had, Calgary dumps a bit of salary, Ottawa doesn't take on too much... Obviously just a skeletal trade, though...

if calgary is going to trade a centre, it's going to be langkow. sutter has been trying to get jokinen for to long; he's not going to trade him after playing 25 games.

Yeah, i dunno... Calgary finally got the 'big number one center' theyve been after to play with Iggy, i doubt they just dump him off so soon.

Plus, by the sounds of things Ottawa fans want the team to get younger as they deal Heatley...so that proposal doesnt make a ton of sense.

People said Heatley wouldn't get traded a year into his contract... (Joking) I know its unlikely, just wanted to show a more viable option than straight up. I can't really think of a trade that works between these two teams.

Love the idea. And just because Phaneuf had one "OFF" year doesn't mean that he's no longer one of the best defenseman in the league.

YES!

The Flames need defence more than offence. There is no way Sutter does this.

Phaneuf was incredibly frustrating to watch as a Flames fan this year, but the constant overreaction and desire to trade the guy does not make any sense. His potential is still off the charts (as seen in the POs this year, he clearly carried an injury ravaged defense, and yes the stats back it up) why trade him at a low point like this? It may at some point make sense to deal the guy, but may as well hold onto him for now.

That said, Heatley is a fantastic player, the value is not bad here.

As a leaf fan, I would hope this deal does not happen. No more beating up on the sens. But I do think this is fair value.

This is laughable, Phaneuf is no where near Heatly's value...

Forward - Heatly had 72 pts. (off year)
D-Man - Phaneuf had 47 pts. (also an an off year)

Heatley was a -11
Phaneuf was a -11

Yup, these two look pretty even in value to me.

+/- doesn't mean much nor do points for a defenseman, he's just too bad in his own end compared to Heatly's offensive output.

Ottawa +/- goal differential = -20
Calgary +/- goal differential = +6

Heatley has more value for sure, but who knows what might happen.

If I was Ottawa I'd do it in a 2nd and run away laughing. No way calgary is as trigger happy as some fans on this board.

The kid is fricking 23, jesus.

I would say a Heatley for Phaneuf deal is closer than what most people think. Phaneuf has a smaller cap hit as well, which may skew the fact that Heater is more consistent.
