I'm back, I am sure I was missed Anyway, I have started to pull together the prospect links for the 08-09 season, but it is too early for some of the info. to be available. Also, while there are a lot of prospects outside of Hershey/SC, I don't think the playing in NA/European threads will work this year given so few of the Caps prospects are expected to play in Europe this season.

Last year, I posted a few posts at the beginning of the thread with the basic info about the prospects, as well as links to their season profiles and stats. Also, a link to the stats pages for the different leagues. Here's my attempt to do something similar this season.

..Draft/Work in Progress...if anyone sees any typos please let me know...If a player's name is a link, it links to the player profile for his 08/09 team. Listed info. includes draft year/round and team information for 08-09.

Links to profiles and stats pages will be added/updated as they become available closer to the season starts for the individual prospects

Prospects playing in NCAA/USHL

Brett Bruneteau, F, USHL, Des Moines Bucaneers, (09 UND), 07 4th rd link to stats

Greg Burke, F, USHL, Cedar Rapids, (09 UNH), 08 6th rd

Phil DeSimone, F, Sophomore, New Hampshire (Hockey East), 07 3rd rd; link to USCHO DeSimone profile

Dan Dunn, G, Sophomore, St Cloud State (WHCA), 07 6th rd; link to USCHO Dunn profile

Joe Finley, D, Senior, North Dakota (WCHA), 05 1st rd; link to USCHO Finley profile

Andrew Glass, F, Freshman, BU (Hockey East), 07 7th rd

Nick Larson, F, Minnesota (WCHA), 07 7th rd

and a reminder not to get confused with the fact that there are 2 Nick Larson's, the other Nick Larson was an 08 draft pick of the Calgary Flames and plays for Waterloo in the USHL

Prospects playing in CHL

Joel Broda, C, WHL, Moose Jaw Warriors, 08 5th rd

John Carlson, D, OHL, London Knights, 08 1st rd

Stefan Della Rovere, LW, OHL, Barrie Colts, 08 7th rd

Braden Holtby, G, WHL, Saskatoon Blades, 08 4th rd

Dmitri Kugryshev, RW, Q, Quebec Remparts, 08 2nd rd; Remparts player profile

Brett Leffler, RW, WHL, Regina Pats, 07 5th rd

Eric Mestery, D, WHL, Tri-City Americans, 08 2nd rd

Keith Seabrook, D, WHL, Calgary Hitmen, 06 2nd rd

Justin Taylor, C, OHL, London Knights, 07 6th rd

Prospects playing in Europe

Anton Gustafsson, C, Sweden, Bofors, 08 1st rd

Mikhail Yunkov, C, Russia, 04 2nd rd

Notes:

? Brent Gwidt, USHL, Indiana Ice, 06 6th rd; not sure if he is still on Caps protected list

In addition, there are some older russian draft picks that are still on the Caps protected list.

Players under contract with the Capitals are not listed.

Joel Broda started his WHL season with a SHG in his first game after returning from NHL training camp (I believe he wore an A last night; many CHL teams wait until the players are back from camps to name a C)

Broda articles...

some quotes about experience at camp...

article about his time at camp

and

"...The Warriors were also boosted by the return of Washington Capitals prospect and Prince Albert native Joel Broda, who put in a dominant appearance in front of his hometown fans and was rewarded with a shorthanded marker in the second period.
“He definitely helps us out, there’s no doubt about that,” Hunchak said. “He brings back his experience and depth, and I don’t think there’s a better place for him to play his first game back in our league than in Prince Albert. He gives us that goal-scoring presence on another line, which we didn’t have in the first two games, and obviously that was the difference tonight.”

article about his first game incl. picture

Mestery: ""We have Eric back and that will help our power play," Reddick said"

CHL (all is right in Caps world, ha ha, as we have to wait for the late games with all the WHL prospects)

OHL
- Taylor with a SHG, an assist and -2 in a loss to Windsor
- DellaRovere - second period, game misconduct, boxscore indicates "Checking to the Head"
WHL
-Broda - first star, 2 goals, an assist and +3 in a win
-Seabrook, wearing an A for Calgary, (OT: the younger Schultz, St. Louis pick, a goal in each of his first three games and in game 4, has had his first fight of the season)
- Holtby (got the start), Leffler (wearing an A) and Mestery's teams also playing tonight
Q
It seems Kugryshev updates are continuing in the other thread, Quebec won in SO, Kugryshev with a PPG in the 2nd and a goal in the SO

Cedar Rapids wins the USHL Fall Classic.

Burke led the event with four goals and tied for the most points with five.

Also, Taylor with a goal in a London 3-2 loss.

Broda was THEFT for you in the draft. Going to be a player. He can be a Dubinsky if he gets a little bigger.

Good to hear, thanks for the insight. It sounded like he was decent in rookie camp as well.

Broda is a badass.

His five goals in three games currently is second in the WHL.

He reminds me a bit of Konowalchuk when seeing him in limited action.

Congrats, I think, Broda... OUCH!

I took a glancing stick the other day. Those things aren't that protective.

I don't recall seeing anyone post these articles here, so an article on Mestery and this Holtby article

looks like the Grand Forks Herald will have a number of articles as the coverage for hockey season ramps up, including some info. on Bruneteau on Friday

some NCAA Caps prospects face off early in the season as BU hosts the Breaker Invitational ..."This year's Ice Breaker format will feature an "East vs. West" competition, as BU and intrastate rival UMass will each face Michigan State and North Dakota." link

[article about Carlson

copy & pasted content below in case some folks can't get to that website - hope that is not against board rules

*******************************

John Carlson will play his first OHL game Friday.

To date, he has already been a first-round NHL draft pick, attended his first Washington Capitals training camp, picked up assists in two preseason games and fulfilled a dream by playing in his original hometown of Boston against his beloved Bruins.

If the big defenceman is in awe when the visiting Saginaw Spirit show up at the John Labatt Centre, it will be a surprise.

"I'm looking forward to playing -- this is why I came here," said the 18-year-old, picked in the second round of the OHL draft from the U.S. Hockey League's Indiana Ice. "I learned a lot at (Caps') camp. I'm ready to help any way I can. I watched the team. It's a good one. We have the goaltending. We have great captains leading the way. But it just can't be them . . . we can use some more leadership and hopefully I can provide it."

The Knights are counting on it. London has a couple of smaller veteran defenceman and some younger, big ones....

It used to be against the rules, I assume it still is; either way, the link you posted didn't work for me, so here it is again link to Carlson article

also, there is a video link on that page

funny, I knew he was originally from Mass., but with the NJ game coming up right after that I was focused on those ties; either way, it is a credit to him for getting in 2 NHL preseason games in his first NHL camp and neat that he got to play in front of family and friends

Didn't realize that Broda can turn pro after his season is done. He'll be 20 in Nov of '09 (before the cutoff date), plus this is his 4th full season in the CHL

yep, just post a bit a of the article and the link

I'm only really enforcing the rule when it's the entire article, other then that just use your judgment on what you think you is a good leaving off point

roger.

i hope this young fella plays the whole season for Dale, then is able to get one of those amateur tryouts (like Bourque got) with Hershey at the end of the year / playoffs . . .the OHL regular season ends March 15 and without knowing anything about the playoff format, i would assume it would be over no later than May... and the Memorial Cup finals in end of May... should give him a little time with Hershey (if they have the room & are in the playoffs)

could not get the video to work just now...
