Nieuwy might be a new GM but he's not stupid.
Even Brett Hull wouldn't touch this.

It's not every day you get the chance to acquire the rights to Mike Comrie.

terrible for Dallas, and now what Ottawa would want in return, we'd like a top winger in return for Heatley at the LEAST.

Trade is getting roasted, but it has merit.

Heatley is much better (IMO) than Richards, younger and signed longer for a lesser cap hit. I understand why DAL wouldn'y want to give up Eriksson, and why someone thought Comrie's rights have any value I don't know.

Counter offer is:

Richards
1st
Fistric (or another suitable prospect)

For
Heatley

Not interested. Thats still way too much to give up for a guy who doesnt fill a real need. Great player for sure, but I dont think he fits in with the stars well at all and I sure wouldnt give up a high pick and eliminate the teams center depth for him.

While you are correct that a cap hit of 7.8 million (Richards) is less than 7.5 million (Heatley) I would hardly consider that enough of a reduction to mention it as a price reduction. Heatley's contract also goes alot longer, where as the Stars will be out from under Richard's contract after 2010-11. Obviously better than the original offer, but still no deal.

Fair enough, I wasn't aguing that this trade happen just that the OP wasn't as off base as some were making them out to be.

What will Richards want in a contract after 10-11? I think there is value in having star players under contact, so I felt it worth mentioning even if over the next 2 years the cap his is only marginally less.

Good got no....who becomes the Stars #2 center? Modano is well past that stage of his career. heatley is a great goalscorer no doubt, but not worth giving up that insane package.

i dont think a deal with dallas can be worked out, to be honest. I want no part of richards with spezza and fisher already eating salary and i cant think of many other ways for dallas to balance salary.

Dallas has the follwoing log jam at LW...

Morrow
Neal
Ott
Benn

There is quality players there and if we were to acquire heatley one of those would have to go back the other way...Morrow is untouchable, I dont think Ottawa have a need for Ott, leaving neal and Benn as part of the package

Neal has the potential to be a 40 goal scorer (i know potential is a bad word but he showed this year being 20+ goal scorer on debut he can easily be a 40 a year man) and has more intangables than heatley, he hits hard and is good defensively, will be a great two way player...so id be reluctant to trade him away..

leaving benn who is a great prospect but not enough to base a deal around, im not sure dallas could offer a proposal without adding Richards and I dont really wont to let him go as I think our 1-2 punch at centre is key to our hopefull success next year..

LA seems to be the best fit for a trade with Ottawa IMO..(johnson and pick 5 as part of their package...fro Heatley)

I think people forget that Heatley has a NMC or NTC. He has some control on where he wants to go which limits some of Ottawa's options right there. Combine that with the fact Ottawa's already went through a situation that could be like this with Yashin. I'll think they'll be glad to get some solid players back but not totally fair market value. So as a Stars fan, Richards plus some picks (maybe 1st next year) and a prospect is all I'd be willing to give up. I think SJ would offer something much nicer and is a more likely destination.

Cap issues aside, I think Dallas gives up Ribeiro before they give up Richards, Richards is the more complete player in every sense and he would have been the higher scorer if not for the injuries this year.

I think Heatley would be a tremendous add for the Stars, who would finally gain their replacement for Hull, but I don't know if I see the pieces fitting unless Ottawa has any interest in Marty Turco and Dallas is convinced he can be replaced.

And I don't think the Stars have much interest in trading that No. 8 pick. Any player they grab there fills a need and I think they believe they won't be picking up there any time soon again.

I could see them moving Benn because they have a fair amount of scoring youth already and I could see one of the young defenders going possibly, but I'm not sure there's a fit with the Sens.

No on the 1st deal. Giving up too much. I would trade either Ribiero or Richards, Daley and a pick. This would clear cap and leave a little for ufa's. We all know Dallas needs another scoring winger. We have too many playmakers. Both Ribiero and Richards are great playmakers, but don't shoot. Heatley would be like Hull was in 1999, and we all know what that lead to, the STANLEY CUP!!!!

Trading Ribeiro not only hurts our passing game but it may have an adverse effect on Morrow also. Morrow and Ribeiro have to much chemistry to tear that apart. Plus i doubt Ribeiro would want to go back to another Canadian team and be torn apart in the Canadian press again. I myself would move Richards before Ribeiro.

Hah. A $7.8 million second line centre?

Hell no. Replace Richards with Ribiero and we'll talk.
