Proposal: Phi-Van

Would you trade Carter for Kesler, Edler and Schneider?

Solves the shutdown C position, adds another young D and 2nd goalie with good upside.

Thoughts?

Most likely not, the only way I see Carter getting traded is for a proven #1 goalie. Schneider is not that. Although Kesler and Edler are good players and only for that reason I even consider it. Carter is going to be something special and i'd like to hold on to him at all costs.

the **** is with people coming in with reasonable trade offers these days? I have to say no, but it was really close. Carter's offensive potential is just too much to give up right now.

my thinking was Kesler fixes the 3rd line shutdown and can add offence as well. Giroux can move into Carters position. A healthy Briere will offset 70% or more of Carter's points. Edler adds to a young D core (already signed). Ans Schneider could fix the long term goalie issues. And Salary wise..it is even. Schneider = Nitty,
Carter 2y at 5m = Edler 4y at 3.25 and Kesler 1y 1.75.

rough lines:

Gagne Richards Lupul
Hartnell Giroux Briere
Powe Kesler Knuble back?
Carcillo Ross Asham

have Nodl, JVR, Kalinski waiting in AHL

Timmonen Parent
Coburn Edler
Carle Sbisa
Jones(dump) them sign cheap tougher d-man (Zanon)

Emery
Schneider

As much as the deal seems pretty fair, the Flyers need a star defenseman or goalie for Carter. He is only what 24 and got 45+ goals last year?

After what Carter put up this season, I would think that Philadelphia would want to hold on to him for years to come.

The only two young players I have a real appreciation for in Vancouver are Edler and Kesler (Hodgson, potentially, as well). It's not a bad offer.

My biased opinion says that the Flyers will rue the day they let Carter become a part of another organization, though.

Yeah, I'd have to do that one. We'd have get the big, strong 3rd line center, top-4 defenseman, and top goalie prospect that all of us seem to want in one deal. If we could waive Jones, we'd have a hell of a lineup, as Tripod demonstrated. Maybe get Vaananen back, if he'd return? I liked him.

Hell yeah I'd do it, Kesler had 26 goals and 59 points last year, he could probably play 2nd line for us fairly easily. Plus he has size, plus Edler is awesome, plus I love Schneider going back to his BC days.

I don't think Vancouver does it though.

Your bang on, Vancouver would not do it.

Kesler is 3.25 million dollars less on the cap hit, plays a great defensive game, has good offence and is only 24 as well. Keslers offensive numbers last season were better than any other season Carter has had except for the past season.

Giving up Edler and Schneider to upgrade to Carter? No way Gillis does that.

Similar to the main board thread (with Edler instead of Bieksa) and I like both proposals quite a bit. That's good stuff in return for Carter, but still not sure I'd actually do it.

But oh man would I like Kesler on this team.

One thing to watch with Kesler that seems to not get much press, every line he gets put on goes on a hot streak. He brings the energy which gets other players going.

Like the other thread, I like all three players coming back to Philly. However I just cannot bring myself to trade Jeff. He just seems to get better and better every year and who knows what his ceiling will be I just cannot part with him.

This one sure looks good...

Edler is extremely solid and is an excellent two way d-man, and I would love to have som Swedes in Philly!

If Schneider would be a star goalie in the making I would make the trade right away. The fact that we don't get star quality in net or at defence back from nucks makes the trade less attractive for us. Edler and Schneider both have huge upsides but Carter is a 50 goals per season guy now.

First of all: I love Carter. But:
A 24 year old 46 goal scorer for ... a 24 year old Selke finalist, a 23 year old potential franchise d-man and a 23 year old potential franchise goalie?

You'd have to be insane (or in love - and I mean IN LOVE - with JC) to turn that offer down.

Gagne - Giroux - Briere
Hartnell - Richards - Lupul
Powe - Kesler - Knuble
Carcillo - Ross - Asham
(Or something like that)

Timonen - Coburn
Edler - Parent
Sbisa - Alberts (or any physical d-man)
(Nothing against Carle, but with Edler he and his cap hit become redundant.)

Emery
Schneider

Yes, please.
No way Vancouver does that, though. (At least I don't think so.)

this means giroux has to go up against malkin or staal what like 8 times during the season then another 4 during the playoffs which will most likely happen again. i'd rather have carter as our 2nd line center not giroux. i still think we need a 3rd line center like kesler.

so for me no, i wouldn't do it. richie and carts are untouchable right now. we need both of them to compete with in our division.
