Chicago - Boston

Okay, let me preface this with the fact that I did not come up with this proposal I saw it on the Bruins board and absolutely loved the idea of the trade.

Boston Gets:
Kris Versteeg (RFA ~$2.75MM)
Cam Barker (RFA ~$2.75MM)
Dustin Byfuglien ($3.00MM)
Total ~ $8.50MM

Chicago Gets:
Phil Kessel (RFA ~$5.00MM)
Vladimir Sobotka ($0.75MM) (was Zach Hamill on the Bruins board but I though Sobotka was more fair)
Andrew Ference ($1.40MM)
Total ~ $7.15MM

Boston may take on too much money here but if this deal was ever offer they would be crazy to pass it up, in my opinion.

Now is the value there? Is it far off? Who needs to add or take away? Who would do it, who wouldn't?

I'm confused as to why Chicago does this deal. I understand the allure of Kessel and his goal scoring prowess. However, Versteeg scored 53 points this year and over 22 goals and comes in (at your estimation) under $3 million. Barker 40pts in 68gp and one of the best d-men in the NHL on the PP last year. If Vertseeg and Barker can be signed for $5.5 million between them why would Chicago (a cap constrained team) want Kessel at $5 million? Then there's the idea of dumpng Byfuglien, which admittedly i'm not wholly against but it has to be the right deal and this isn't even close to being it.

I'm not a capologist at all, I have absolutely ZERO idea what any of these guys get. Say Versteeg gets $3.5 and Kessel gets $4.5, does that change things?

Say Versteeg gets $10m and Kessel $675k, how about then?

You're still looking to take three important pieces of our team and give back one of yours. If you like those three guys so much, why don't you just buy a Hawks jersey and cheer for them there?

I love Kessel to death, probably my favorite player outside of Patrice Bergeron, but I definitely do this deal as a Bruins fan. Can't see Chicago signing off on it.

Once again let me repeat:
"Okay, let me preface this with the fact that I did not come up with this proposal I saw it on the Bruins board and absolutely loved the idea of the trade."

I am pretty sure the guy who posted it said a Chicago fan brought it up too.

1 important piece??? Wrong. Sobotka and Ference are both important pieces.

Ferrence is not an important piece. He's expendable. Sobotka should be an important piece this year.

I understand Chicago saying no to this, but as a B's fan I would be a little worried about Versteeg duplicating his season. I still have a few questions about him. I also am ambivalent on Buff. Can't deny his strong playoffs, but something about him worries me as well. Barker would be a great addition though.

I also think Chi fans are undervaluing Sobotka here. Mark my words, he will be a better player than Versteeg.

Sobotka is a 4th liner on most teams. Ference is a borderline number 4 on almost every team in the league. Especially Chicago.

Isn't that what people said about Bochenski after we traded him to you? How good was he for Bruins this past year

Well, this comment shows how much you know, since he isn't even part of the Bruins anymore....

Barker runs the power play, Buff runs the crease and Versteeg picks fights with midgets.

All three are necessary for a successful Chicago Black Hawks Hockey Club.

Bad comparison as Bochenski was 25 years old when traded to the Bruins and Sobotka is not yet 22.

Sobotka's year this year as a 21 year old in the AHL is pretty comparable to Versteeg's year as a 21 year old in the AHL.

Sure, Kris, being more than a year older, made a huge jump this year, and that can't be denied. He has now proven more in the NHL than Sobotka. But I like Sobotka's overall game more. I've seen them both, have you? Call me biased if you want, but I honestly believe what I said.

Though it's more than fair value headed Boston's way... I don't think I do it. I love Sobotka and feel he's essential to the Bruins future... Ference is very expendable, unless he turned into a top4 D-man over night.

If Chicago wants Feence, I think a pick or Prospect gets it done...

Fair enough but your selling the Bruins short. Kessel is the best player in the proposal, Sobokta while still a prospect showed he had a ton of ability during the 2007-08 season and the playoffs. Ference may be expendable but lets not sell him short. We his isn't a top 3 defensemen he is definitely a capable defensemen when healthy at a very cap friendly price.

I can understand Chicago not wanting to do this but this isn't like Boston is trading nothing.

I think that's the joke. Hasn't been signed and traded to like a million teams since his tenure with the Bruins? (Disclaimer: Not literally a million)

Hasn't he been on 6 NHL teams so far? I know he was traded for Versteeg and then in a deal for Hnidy... Then signed by Tampa (?)... I liked him in Boston... There was a 5-8 game stretch where he was the best player on the ice.
