Ok Kovalev is not producing and its about time
Neved,Leech even barnabay they produce more
and ad a impact on there team why did they adapted
they work.
Kovy as to start skating not gliding is the
most talented player on this team.
Talent is one thing but talent with no work
is usless look at Jagar.
That my opinion maybe i am wrong some say give him time
how munch time .

When Montreal traded for Kovalev, I kept hearing what a great goal scorer he was and that he was one of the top five players in the league. This was from hockey experts. Well if you look at his stats this doesn't hold true.

Total games played..........Goals scored........total points
845 292 680

GP Goals
65 20
76 23
48 13
81 24
45 13
73 23
14 3
77 23
82 26
79 44
67 32
78 37
74 14

Those are not elite player's numbers. He has marvelous skills but somehow he hasn't produced elite numbers. So we should be careful of what we expect from him. Also, we shouldn't listen to the hype that was manufactured after the trade. This is one reason why I wasn't all that excited about this trade. And he's anUFA at the end of the year. We gave too much.

???

Let's look at the last 3 seasons before this one.

37 Goals, 77 Pts in 78 Games, .99 PPG 19th in league in PTS, 9th in goals
32 Goals, 76 Pts in 67 Games, 1.12 PPG 11th in PTS despite missing 15 games
44 Goals, 95 Pts in 79 Games, 1.20 PPG 4th in PTS, 5th in goals

How are these not elite numbers? 700 players in the league and he's consistently been in the top 10 the last few years. Maybe your defintion of elite is different thanmine.

I was expecting this, the booing that is, and I can't say i'm surprised that Kovalev hasn't been producing up to par til now, it's like high profile players can't prosper in MTL like they do in other cities, the fans in MTL are horrible, just plain horrible though...I expect Kovalev to turn it on soon enough, just need a bit more time and to build some more chemistry with the players, I hope he dosen't get too sour on playing here after the booing, although he seemed to play better in the 3rd, he was one of our better players on the ice...

P.S...the funny thing is I was watching the game at a Pub and there was loud music and I couldn't hear the crowd, but I told myself and my friends "I bet you there booing Kovalev"...then this morning I get on HF boards to find out I was right

You know, you can take three years of Stephane Richer's career and make him look like a super star. Look at Kovolev's entire career and you'll see he's barely a .8 point a game player. A decent stat but not an elite player. Hab fans are expecting too much from him. I'd say his stats are on par (maybe slightly better) with Koivu and Zednick.

And to answer your question, Brett Hull, Sakic, Lemieux, Gretsky, Forseberg are elite players. Kovolev lacks too much in his overall game to even approach those players.

I missed the last two games(thankfully, If I had to do it all over again, I'd miss it even if they played their two best games in history) but did people really boo Kovalev? I have a hard time believing some people would go as low as that, thats not just moronic, that makes me envy the Penguins. Well when I think about it, I'm not surpried, we here in NA have a mentality problem towards stars. Its very evident here too, you praise them like the lord when they succeed and you attack them like vultures when their in need. IMO, I've travelled enough to know people here don't live(les morts vivants d'apres Jean Paul Sartre) and most are gutless cowards.

I should have known before actually reading the first post that this would be a joke. Touche Mike8. You're just starting something that will be beaten over everyone's head in the near future.

Maybe you can lend Mike8 your helmet for the misunderstood bludgeoning he's getting?

I am not at all worried about Kovalev yet... The best is yet to come, and also.. Many are judging during a 2 game losing skid which is not fair IMO. Buffalo's game and Ottawa were 2 bad games for 90% of the habs. If any body can come out and say they played 2 periods of good hockey over the past 6, they did allright in terms of the rest of the squad. Ryder stands out IMO he played a great game in Buffalo... Other than that, it was frustrating as hell to watch. Now the stigma of a hot team is gone, Kovie is a part of the team now, his shoulder should be pretty close to 100%... (<-- was my guess for his not scored a goal on an opposing goalie yet, as he's had shots that are nose hairs off). Kovie is finally on the real habs team... the team in 7th place, and doing pretty good.

IMO Gainey, Kovalev, Julien all know that Alex will be judged on his playoff performance... All I have to say, is that if Alex succeeds with flying colors... A whole lot of pessimists are eating crow, Cause Kovalev is a World Class talent, and anyways my point is, IF he heats up after April 5 and is one of the hottest in the league (yes he is capable) Gainey got him for THAT.

Kovalev I think should get offered a contract regardless... He has the talent, and to be on our team since the beginning of the year just mught rebound his #'s in to that status he was at a few VERY SHORT years ago. Espescially with a hard working team.

I'm thinking he needs medieval armour. Lots of badly aimed slingshots and arrows.

Put him on Koivu's line and keep him there. Koivu will get him the puck in a hurry unlike Ribeiro. Ribeiro seems to like to hold onto the puck but Koivu likes to dish it quickly.

He'll come around.

Mark my words.

Pops two tonight!

Hey suffering rangerfan here
kovalev has had a terrible year (as has most of the rest of the rangers) but kovy has been taking bad penalties all year and being moved around on the powerplay from point to foward back to the point, never given a chance to really get his game going

if he is given lots of icetime he will pick up his play, he is just having a rough stretch, sort of a ranger hangover

but the good news for you guys is kovalev is a solid playoff performer who really steps his game up, as long as he gets time he will show up when the games count

good luck to you guys

It's nice to hear your support. I think like a lot of Habs fans we all sort of watched Kovalev during the highlights but never really saw what made him a special player. I'm glad to hear he is good in the playoffs, I really did start paying attention to him back in his Pittsburgh days. Here's hoping he returns to that stature.

Yep, I sure hope he can return to there for the playoffs aswell. If he doesn't pick it up he'll probably have a hard time making even half of what he's making now, next year. So it's for his own good that he shapes up, and quickly, time's running out on the season.
