Who will be the best player from the 2006 draft?

There are a couple of candidates, and although most would say Toews or Backstrom, I think some other guys will be right there too.

1. Toews
2. Backstrom
3. Kessel
4. Giroux
5. Staal

Can't believe Giroux lasted to 22nd, and just as mind boggling is Varlamov at 23.

EJ could work his way onto this list, but he has to get healthy and prove himself first.

Backstrom for me. Great draft class though.

If I had to bet right now, I'd say Toews.

If Erik Johnson recovers fully from his knee surgery, I think he has a great chance to be the best player from the draft and will compete with Hedman for best defenseman of the generation.

Kessel will score the most goals over his career.

Backstrom, Toews, and Kessel will all be close in career points. It will come down to linemates and injuries.

I'm obviously a bit biased as a Bruins fan but I had to say Milan Lucic. He was almost a point per game player in the playoffs and even though being elimated in the second round, was the 3rd in the entire playoffs for +/-. Anybody that watched this kid play in the playoffs seriously must want him on their team. He is so physical that the other team knows when he is on the ice and simply his presence leads to hurried plays by the opposition which leads to turnovers which leads to Boston goals. I've never seen other players as afraid of somebody as much as when I watched Komisarek basically ****ing a brick whenever he knew Lucic was on the ice. To top it off, he has some good hands and can still easily put up points.

I'd say more than "a bit".

Frolik, because I met him and he is a nice fellow...and no one else voted for him, so why not?

EJ! Pietrangelo/EJ could be the MacInnis/Pronger of the next decade.

Erik Johnson. I don't think there is a more underrated player on these forums.

He's definitely up there.

That said, if the draft is today and I have the #1 pick I take Toews and I don't flinch.

Toews or EJ.

EJ is so underrated... he's better than Doughty + Bogosian who are hyped to the tilt (but deserve large portions of it because they are awesome).

For the record, I'm neither a Hawks nor Blues fan.

Nobody ever talks about him but the best young Dman is Erik Johnson and I believe he will be the best player from this draft and one of the best D-men for years to come

Out of the games I saw in the playoffs and out of the list in the poll, Lucic was by far the best player out of all of them. He can put up points and like I said, I've never seen a player as intimidating as him.

better than backstrom? backstrom got himself 15 pts in 14 playoff games - best out of that draft.

i'll agree that no one ( being a habs fan ) out of that list is as intimidating as lucic is - but the best playoff performer? you should look at some of the other players.

to be fair - yes, lucic got an impressive 9 pts out of 10 games ( while being +12! ).

but backstrom, to me, has quickly proven to be the best player out of that draft ( if not for johnson's injuries ).

Yeah but that's exactly why I thought Lucic was the best. You can't just look at point totals and say they're the best for that reason. Every time Lucic was on the ice, the other team was almost a completely weaker version of that team. That's why I feel he was the best, there are many things that players do in the shadows that they don't get credit for and I was really impressed by how much Lucic turned it up in the playoffs.

This. I think u cant go wrong with a few picks, Mainly Backstrom and Toews. High praise and maybe this is a bit unrealistic but i see them being forsberg and Sakic, respectivly.
