Jack Skille + Sopel for 3rd(from TO or NYI)

Both Teams Could use a big, NHL ready winger and both teams have cap space.

Sopel is a former Vancouver Player(Burke player I believe) and Burke has stated he will take a small salary Dump for 1 or 2 years If he could get a good pick / prospect. On top of this Skille is a Big, American, Collage Kid. Sounds like Burke, eh? And the Island needs to reach the cap floor, and is only going to be a bit short after signing the 1st pick this year(ELC + Bonuses). They could use a young winger with size because they are small upfront (now and their prospects).

I would do it from a Toronto perspective- especially if Kaberle and/or Kubina are being moved.

I like Skille a lot and don't think he's been given the best of chances in Chi-town.

Please quit tossing Sopel in Islander proposals.

He sucked bigtime when he played for the isles. They don't want him back. Not even if the Hawks include a good prospect

Also, the Isles have a big forward prospect in Joensuu. He's probably going to spend a 2nd yr at Bridgeport, but they like him a lot.

As a Hawks fan I wouldn't do it.

I would rather leave Skille to play year in AHL and see if Sopel can return to his 07-08 form which was solid.

I would do it. Skille will never crack the top 6 here and does not play with enough heart to go far with this squad. He needs a kick in the pants if he is going to ever stick with the NHL.

Sopel could play like he did 2 seasons ago which would be great. But coming off an injured season I'd rather not take that risk when he is making $2mil for 2 more years. It's better to save that money and give it to Keith.

I can't imagine Burke being willing to bring in Sopel. Toronto already has plenty offense-oriented dmen, and want to keep their payroll free for big signings this summer.

IMO, Chihawks best option with Sopel is to buy him out.

We already have 10 defensemen fighting for 6 roster spots, the last thing we need is another, especially another offensive guy as Darth stated.

Since joining Chicago Sopel has actually been more of a defensive d-man. Chicago wont buy out Sopel, they just got Barnaby's buyout off the books and Brown's will be coming off at the end of next season. Chicago have a fair bit of cap space for the upcoming season so i think they'll just keep Sopel for now and try and deal him when he only have 1 year left.

Same here. We'd have to do some wheeling and dealing to make room for Sopel, or move him somewhere but I'd do this.

I think that Skilles value is only about a 3rd right now so if we have to take Sopel back shouldn't we only need to trade a 4th/5th? Whatever if we couldn't get a better deal I still might do it and just waive Sopel, they are going to need a veteran for the Marlies.

Sopel couldnt be further from an offensive dman at this point in his career. He was very defensively reliable two seasons ago but has since been injured. I think Burke might be willing to bite on one of his old favorites.

although it's a deal to think about Toronto simply has zero roster space for Sopel. Even if we trade one of the K's on d it wouldn't work. The only salary dumps I see Burke taking would be forwards.

Congrats to Hawksfan though. You finally made a decent proposal that involved the Hawks.

Seems like a good deal.... the question is how far skille's potential has dropped since being drafted. However, for a 3rd round pick you really can't go wrong.

Sopel is more of a defensive dman in the sense that he has lost all his offensive abilities (which, basically always consisted of good hand skills, a laser shot, and decent straight line skill). At his best in Chicago, he still have lousy positioning, poor defensive reads, and makes mind numbing defensive choices. He is the epitome of a marginal NHL defensemen.

Good luck unloading that contract.

sopal butout would be 733000 for 4 years

I think the hawks will go that route instead of giving away Skille for nothing. Sopal was injured most of the last two years and that hurts his value

If Burke was looking to get Skille, I'd think that something could be worked out without having to take Sopel.

I still think that Stajan would be a good fit in Chicago. Skille and a 2nd for Stajan and a 4th (2010)?...

No this is simply the first time I've seen you make a post involving the Hawks. It's a simple congrats. Seeing as I brought this up to you yesterday and today there is one and it's not terrible. I don't see how I'm trying to get people going. If you really wanted to talk about getting people going on the boards. I'd say starting new threads daily about teams other then your own and never going back to discuss people's opinions on them is a sign that you live for the boards and to try and get people going.
