What if:Trade Grachev to Colorado for ??...

With Colorado's 3rd pick it is said they will be taking Matt Duchene, Grachev's old line-mate. My thoughts are this...

If we can't pry the 3rd round pick away from Colorado we could trade them Grachev for some proven young talent. That would give Colorado huge incentive due to the chemistry between them.

Chris Stewart, RW
Wojtek Wolski
Maybe even
Marek Svatos

I am not familiar with Colorado's players but I'm sure some of you are. Any snipers or scoring forwards with good contracts we could go for? What are the chances of this happening?

You are out of you mind if you would trade Grachev for that garbage. I liked Wolski at the time he was drafted but he simply isn't in the same league as Grachev talent wise. I like Duchene but I'm not willing to trade Grachev to draft him. Grachev is 6'3, 215 and moves like a freight train with hands. I would not be willing to move him unless it was in a deal for Nash. IMO, Grachev is probably in the top 10 prospects outside of hockey.

The concept makes sense, but do we really need those players? I say no

If one was really keen on trading Grachev, they'd probably package him with another player or two for Stastny... someone who might actually make a difference.

I didn't say to trade Grachev to get Duchene. I said there would be a HUGE interest from Colorado to aquire Grachev to play along side Duchene. My question was this... Is there any young-talent with good contracts that would make trading Grachev worth while. I don't want picks.

No, I'd rather have Grachev than Stewart who IMO is a good player, but not something we need, Wolski who is as inconsistent as Afinogenov, and the injured version of Prucha.

No. Not even Paul Stasney (not to say I wounldn't want PS). I wouldn't want to simply because we need scoring wingers. Not centers. Add to the fact that Grachev is looking to be of the big power forward variety, we also need size which he has in spades. Grachev has to potential to fill so many holes in our roster. A wise man once said "anything that solves multiple problems is a good idea" And these good ideas just don't grow on trees.

Not sure of the purpose of such a trade...if you're telling me that I'll get back Kovalchuk or Nash, then I'm okay with including Grachev in the deal. But, for the players mentioned...not really.

Why trade a rookie of the year in the ohl... who was top 10 in almost every offensive catergory( 1 more point then Duchence) and is a big guy who can skate... for a bunch of inconsistent players IMO

i'd have him be the centerpiece of a package that would land us stastny, but they wouldn't do it.

Anyone who wouldn't do Stastny for Grachev is insane. Kid is a proven PPG player in the NHL.

Yeah and he's also going to cost us A LOT more salary cap dollars a lot sooner than Grachev ever will.... Rangers are in deep cap doo doo for the immediate future so they have to choose their acquisitions wisely....

Utilizing cheap young talent is a great way to stay under the cap and absolutely vital to staying competitive in today's NHL... If you keep bringing in young players who can contribute while making near minimum salaries, you can afford to keep paying the big contract players...

No way. If we are trading Grachev to the Avs then the 3rd pick or Statsny better be coming the other way.

Good thinking...but pass

If they offered Stastny you'd have to think about it. Hes the real deal confirmed. But they wouldn't. They'll offer Ryan Smyth. So yea be very afraid because Sather digs Ryan Smyth.... and hes not the answer

No offence to Avs fans on these boards but they don't really have much that would interest us (except Stastny).

Wolski - NO
Svatos - BIG NO

Grachev is a perennial 30/30 talent at the minimum, I would not gift wrap him away so easily.

I would think that it would behoove Sather to find a way to get the #3 so that WE could draft Duchene to re-unite him with Grachev.

NYR 1st and 2nd in 09 with Girardi and Korpikoski for the 3rd overall pick and Svatos

thoughts?

Take out Svatos and it could be done...

We need big young forwards that can put the puck in the net.

Grachev is the type of player that is just what the doctor ordered.

We waited how long for a legit, powerforward prospect? Over 12 years? Now we have one and people think about trading him for a small center.

How about instead of giving away Grachev to Colorado, Colorado gives up Duchene (#3) to us.

I'd do something like Callahan, Sanguinetti, 1st for him. I'm not sure what Colorado needs but I'd also toss in either Dubinsky or Anisimov instead of Cally if they need a center. Having Duchene makes one of those two obsolete.
